Reutter School Weekly Update
Week of September 21, 2026
Principal's Message
Reutter School Families,
Our students had a fantastic week settling into their academic routines as teachers launched introductory lessons across all subject areas. In fifth-grade ELA, students in Miss Rey and Miss Jacobs’ rooms reviewed key plot concepts and story structure vocabulary to build a strong foundation for reading comprehension and analytical skills. Meanwhile, sixth-grade math classes with Mrs. Pizzo and Mrs. Busler focused on mastering multi-digit division using the standard algorithm and converting fractions into decimals. In physical education, Mr. Burlingame’s classes kicked off the year by establishing their baseline fitness levels through various fitness assessments, including the mile run.
Looking ahead, we will officially reopen the school library for the year over the next two weeks. In an exciting change this year, students will head to the library with their ELA classes to build a stronger connection between independent reading and their ELA coursework.
We also have several spirit days on the horizon. This Friday, we will celebrate our monthly character trait of respect by hosting a character trait color day, and we invite our entire school community to wear red. Next Friday, everyone is encouraged to wear Reutter School apparel or school colors to showcase our school pride for Reutter RAM School Spirit Day. Finally, please mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 30, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM for our PTO McDonald's Fundraiser. Come out to enjoy a meal and see me, along with many CLR faculty and staff members, serving you dinner and desserts behind the counter in support of our school!
Lastly, all parents and guardians to complete our annual Character Development Anonymous Survey. This year, the survey includes crucial questions regarding student attendance, which directly supports our school’s Attendance Action Plan to help reduce chronic absenteeism. Your feedback will establish an important baseline for both our School Safety Team and Attendance Committee.
Additionally, we want your input on our end-of-year sixth-grade traditions! The final two questions of the survey offer space to share your thoughts on the Sixth Grade Trip and the Commencement Ceremony.

Deadline: The survey will remain open until Sunday, September 27 at 11:59 PM.
Educationally Yours,
Mr. Theodore Peters

A Look At This Past Week...
Student Complete the Summer Academic Challenge
We are proud of the Caroline L. Reutter School students who successfully completed the Summer 2026 Academic Challenge. Thank you to these dedicated Rams for staying committed to their learning, reading, and skill-building throughout the summer months.
Keep up the fantastic work as we dive into a wonderful school year!
Mrs. Colon’s Science Experiment
Last week, students in Mrs. Colon’s class conducted their first science experiment of the year! By placing celery stalks in water mixed with food coloring, students observed how nutrients are absorbed through the stem and transported up to the leaves. The food coloring provided a clear visual of this process in action.
Math Connections
Last week, in Mrs. Riggione’s and Mrs. Cockerill’s fifth grade math classes, students listened to 30,000 Stitches as we took time to remember and honor September 11.
Students then jumped into a math activity connected to the American flag while practicing our standing whiteboard routines. Working in groups, students solved a Try It problem, shared their strategies, and made connections between the different ways their classmates approached the problem.
Students were also invited to choose from differentiated extension tasks, giving them an opportunity to keep exploring and applying their math skills through American flag-related prompts.
Unlocking the Elements of a Story
On Tuesday, fifth-grade ELA classes in Miss Rey and Miss Jacobs’ rooms reviewed key plot concepts and story structure vocabulary to help deepen their reading comprehension and analytical skills.
Sixth Grade Math
Sixth-grade math students in Mrs. Pizzo and Mrs. Busler’s classes spent time this week reviewing how to complete multi-digit division using the standard algorithm and practiced converting fractions into decimals.
Phyiscal Education Classes
Reutter School students in Mr. Burlingame's Physical Education classes kicked off the year by establishing their baseline fitness levels through a variety of fitness assessments, including the mile run.
