The Halloween Dance was a huge success! A massive thank you to all of the parents who donated food, drinks, and decorations that helped to make the event special for all of our students. Classroom Spotlight: P.E. and Arts Electives
Visual Art
6th Grade artists are finishing up their exploration of the art room by working on their mini W.O.W (Wonderful Original Work) project before they swap to music class. Artists are able to create a small project of their choice using drawing, collage, watercolor or sculpture materials. 7th Grade artists are working on their final project in our drawing unit where they are drawing someone or something that is important to them. They have learned drawing techniques like drawing from observation, adding value through shading and drawing a human face and body realistically. 8th Grade artists are working towards finishing requirements for the high school portfolio requirements and the 8th grade choice art show in December. All students have been creating at least two choice art projects to display in conjunction with the Fall Play.
Band
The 6th grade is currently working on rhythm and note reading in preparation for transitioning into their instruments. The 7th and 8th grade are currently working on revising and finalizing their final pieces for their Winter Concert on December 18th.
Dance
What an exciting and busy first quarter it has been for our dance students at MS 50! Since September, students have been working incredibly hard learning choreography, exploring movement, and growing as dancers. One of our biggest highlights was our 50 Fest performance! Students spent weeks rehearsing and learning our dance. And all of their hard work truly showed! I could not be more proud of their energy, confidence, and dedication! Along with preparing for 50 Fest, students also completed our Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) unit, where they explored different movement qualities and energies and learned how to express themselves through movement. Students even had the opportunity to become choreographers, creating their own dances in class using what we learned! It has been amazing watching my students grow in creativity and confidence. I am so proud of everything they have accomplished in such a short time. And I look forward to another exciting quarter of dance!
Physical Education
This week in PE we are closing out quarter one with the school wide Time Zone tournament! This is the last game in the cooperative games unit for PE. Students must work with each other to avoid being tagged by the other team and make it to the zone before the time expires! This tournament will run all week and conclude 8th period on Friday. Next unit up will be Team Handball in the gym
