Sunset Heights Principal Notes

10.24.25

Sunset HeightsPrincipal Notes10.24.25

Recently, we have seen an increase in students using slang, trending terms, and catchphrases popularized by social media—especially platforms like TikTok and YouTube—throughout the school day. These trends move quickly, and new words or phrases can suddenly become part of students’ daily conversations, sometimes without anyone truly understanding what they mean. While many of these expressions are innocent and simply reflect current pop culture, others can carry meanings that are inappropriate, offensive, or disrespectful.

Importantly, this also applies to words or phrases in languages other than English. Just like with slang in English, these can be inappropriate, offensive, or disrespectful, even if students are unaware of the true implications.

We have noticed that oftentimes, students aren’t fully aware of what these words or phrases actually mean—they repeat them simply because they hear others doing so.

We ask for your help in encouraging your children to be mindful about the language they use. Please talk with your child about the importance of not repeating words or phrases—whether in English or another language—unless they clearly understand their meanings, as these could unintentionally be hurtful, inappropriate, or disrespectful.

Thank you for working with us to support a positive and respectful school environment for everyone.

Halloween Reminder

As shared last week, we wanted to remind you that students are not permitted to wear costumes to school on Halloween. Veteran's Day Celebration Veteran's Day Celebration

The Sunset Heights community will be having a Veteran's Day Celebration on Monday November 10th from 10-11 for staff and students. We would like our students to invite a family member or friend who may have served in the armed forces to be part of the celebration. If someone can not attend you can provide a photograph and we will display them in their honor. A notice went home this week to inform us of those who will be participating. A personalized inviation will follow. We kindly ask that only those who have returned the form and recieve an invitation attend.
