DISTRICT UPDATES
CPS Makes Substantial Progress Towards Targets in 2026 MCAS
Chelsea Public Schools made “substantial progress toward targets” from the 2026 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) based on recent data released by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
DESE classified CPS as “not requiring assistance or intervention” after the district increased its annual criterion-referenced target percentage by six percentage points from 46 percent (2025) to 52 percent (2026).
CPS is proud of the progress reflected in the 2026 MCAS results, and the district is grateful for our teachers, paraprofessional, school leaders, and staff who have focused on improving teaching and learning for every students, every day in Chelsea. Visit our website to read more! ⏬
BHCC Awarded Grant to Support & Enhance TRiO Talent Search
We are thrilled to share that Bunker Hill Community College recently was awarded a $1.375 million federal grant to help hundreds of CPS students prepare for and pursue postsecondary education and career opportunities.
The five-year grant, running from October 2026 through September 2031, will enable BHCC’s TRIO Talent Search Program to serve 550 students each year at Chelsea High School, Wright Science and Technology Academy, and Browne Middle School.
TRIO Talent Search and Bunker Hill have been incredible partners in providing middle and high school students in Chelsea the opportunity to access college and career opportunities. We are thrilled to see this work enhanced in the years to come.

CHELSEA OPPORTUNITY ACADEMY UPDATES
COA Happenings
Congratulations to Jacqueline Tiu, who completed her capstone at Chelsea Opportunity Academy on Tuesday! Pictured with her Crew Leader, ELA teacher Giulia Basile, Jacqueline celebrated an important milestone in her journey toward graduation.
The capstone is a culminating experience that gives COA students an opportunity to reflect on their learning, celebrate their growth, and share their plans for life after high school. It is a meaningful COA tradition that honors each student’s story and the relationships that have supported them along the way.
At COA, students can graduate whenever they complete their graduation requirements—they do not have to wait until June. This flexibility allows us to recognize students’ accomplishments throughout the year as they reach their goals and take their next steps. Congratulations, Jacqueline, and thank you to Giulia and the COA team for supporting her journey!
