Weekly News at Reidy Creek Elementary School 2/28/2025
Dear Reidy Creek Families,
As we close trimester two and prepare for the last third of the school year, here are a few highlights from the week.
Fifth Grade Lunch and Learn:
Our fifth-grade lunch and learn was a success! After a presentation around digital safety highlighting the risks of technology and helpful strategies around communicating about technology at home, many fifth-grade families joined their children for a picnic in the courtyard! Our next lunch and learn will be for third-grade families on Wednesday, March 5th, at 11:30. The presentation will focus on the State Testing (CAASPP) that students will take in reading and math during May. The presentation will be from 11:30-12:00 in the MPR, followed by lunch in the courtyard.
Kids Heart Challenge:
Our Kids Healthy Heart Challenge was a success! Thank you for your incredible generosity and support in making our community heart-healthy while helping others. Click here for a BIG Thank You from Heart Heroes across the US! During our Friday assembly, we celebrated all the hard work our students accomplished over the past three weeks!
209 students joined the Reidy Creek team
45 students completed Finn’s Mission
80 families learned hands-only CPR
68 families learned the warning signs of a stroke
Also, because we exceeded our school-wide goal of $3,000, five students got to silly string Coach Zook, Coach Vieaux, and myself!
Classified Employee of the Year
We also had the privilege of honoring our classified employee of the year this morning! Mrs. Lupe Gomez, our office manager, has been a dedicated member of the Reidy Creek staff since 2022, bringing over 15 years of experience in EUSD. She is an invaluable part of our school community, ensuring our office runs smoothly with her exceptional organization, efficiency, and professionalism. Beyond her technical skills, she is known for her warm and welcoming presence, always going above and beyond to support staff, students, and families. While much of her work happens behind the scenes, her impact is felt throughout the school. We are honored to recognize Mrs. Lupe Gomez as this year’s Classified Employee of the Year!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Megan Loh
Principal
Read Across America Week
Join us in celebrating Read Across America Week from March 3rd-7th! This special week is all about fostering a love of reading in our students through engaging classroom activities, guest readers, and fun literacy events. We encourage families to participate by reading together at home and sharing favorite books. Each day, we'll have a daily reading challenge for students to participate in. On Friday, we'll end the week by having a Spirit Day where students are encouraged to dress up like their favorite book character.
Monday, March 3rd: Read your favorite bedtime story.
Tuesday, March 4th: Read a story or biography about someone doing a job you're interested in.
Wednesday, March 5th: Read something that makes you laugh.
Thursday, March 6th: Read the same book as a friend and talk about it together.
Friday, March 7th: Spend some time reading outside today.
Yearbook Purchase
Yearbooks are still available for purchase! On Monday and Tuesday, both before and afterschool, a member of our PTA will be outside for any families who would like to purchase a yearbook.
Families can still purchase online by using this yearbook ordering link.
The deadline to order a yearbook is March 21st. After this date, parents will only be able to pay by check or cash. If you have any questions regarding the yearbook, or have photos to add, please email rcyearbookphotos@yahoo.com.
State Testing
For third-fifth grade students, an important part of a student's academic program is measuring his/her progress through the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) assessments. The CAASPP assessments (SBAC) are administered in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics and will demonstrate how well our students have mastered the standards at their grade level.
Because CAASPP tests are given statewide, they provide an opportunity to measure the skills of all students against the same academic standards. Given online, the tests are computer-adaptive, allowing a more precise measurement of individual skills. Parents can use their student’s ELA or mathematics results as one of many indicators of their child’s performance. Our staff uses these results to inform our grade level instruction and also to compare our school's performance toward achieving our state standards.
I will provide more information regarding these tests and schedules in the future, but I wanted to give you the dates for testing so you can avoid planning appointments and/or trips during this time. Testing is scheduled for Monday, May 5th through Friday, May 23rd. Thank you in advance for helping ensure all students attend school during this time.
All K-5th grade students will also be taking the Spring iReady Diagnostic test in May. This test provides excellent data on how students have grown towards grade level standards this year. More information regarding dates for this test will be sent out in the coming months.
Lunch and Learn Dates
Our next Lunch and Learn is for third grade families around digital safety. This is a very important topic and will cover information about the CAASPP testing that occurs in both ELA and Math from 3rd-8th grade. The presentation will be in the MPR from 11:30-12:00. Following the presentation, parents can join their children for lunch in our courtyard.
Lunch and Learn Dates and Topics:
3/5/25 - Third Grade - CAASPP Testing
4/23/25 - Second Grade - Navigating friendships through SEL
5/21/25 - Fourth Grade - Digital Safety
The parent presentations will all be in the MPR 30 minutes before your child's scheduled lunch time. After the presentation, families will be invited to enjoy lunch in the courtyard with their child. Grade level flyers will be sent home closer to each event.
