Maltby Intermediate School
Determination, Optimism, Generosity, Solidarity
Good days at Maltby
What a great first Quarter of school at Maltby. Our students are achieving, learning and gaining new friendships!
As the Winter weather approaches, here are a couple reminders:
- A hoodie is not a coat. As we get into the cold Michigan weather, we expect students to have a coat they wear to school. We will not allow students without a coat out to recess. Gloves and a stocking hat are great too. Our playground is really windy the entire year.
- Crocs, slides and clogs are not good cold weather footwear. We will not allow students outside in the Winter if their entire foot is not covered, especially if there is snow on the ground.
- If students plan on really playing in the snow, snow pants and boots are a great idea. We don't allow students to call home if they have cold wet pants or socks.
I am certain your student will fight you about their winter clothing choices. But we expect all students to be dressed for our Michigan weather. Thank you for backing up our expectations.

The McKinney Vento Act
The Brighton Area Schools is part of a consortium to serve students in temporary living situations that
provides financial support for educational needs, referral for housing, clothing and other needs, general
support and technical assistance. To ensure compliance with federal law, all school staff must help
identify student living in the following situations: emergency shelters/transitional housing,
motels/hotels, car, parks or public spaces, shared housing due to a loss of housing or economic
hardship, or living temporarily with non-parent or guardian.
The districtβs homeless liaison is Starr Acromite and each building has trained staff members to assist in
the endeavor. Our consortium contact at the Livingston Educational Service Agency is Candice
Uyttendaele.
Please contact your building principal or Starr Acromite at 810-299-4040 for information/assistance.
