7th Grade C.C.R. Meetings

Our school counselor, Ms. Strate, has sent out special invitations to 7th grade parents and guardians to meet with her to discuss your student's career and college readiness!

These Plan for College and Career Readiness (CCR) meetings are an essential opportunity to collaborate on your child's educational journey. Held during September and October, these sessions provide dedicated time to review academic success strategies, address attendance goals, and learn key habits for navigating middle school and beyond. Together with Ms. Strate, families will explore the student's individual interests and aptitudes, set a targeted S.M.A.R.T. goal for middle school, and address any questions you or your child may have. Invitations to schedule your appointment are being sent directly via email, so please keep an eye on your inbox so you can reserve a time slot that works best for your schedule.

Picture Retakes

Please be advised that picture retakes are scheduled for Thursday, October 15th. This session is open to any students who missed the original picture day or would like their picture retaken. Please note that advance signup is required for students who wish to have their picture retaken β€”students will not be able to participate or have their photo taken on retake day unless they have been signed up prior to the event. Please email our lead secretary, Aarika Pierce, at piercea@grandschools.org to sign your student up to get their photo retaken!

πŸ“’ Understanding Bullying: What Parents & Students Need to Know

At Margaret L. Hopkin Middle School, we are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment for all students. To maintain a positive environment, it helps to understand how bullying is defined and how it differs from typical peer conflict.

What is Bullying?

Bullying is defined as repeated actions or threats directed toward a student by one or more individuals who haveβ€”or are perceived to haveβ€”more power or status. The goal of these actions is to cause fear, distress, or harm. Bullying can be physical, verbal, psychological, or a combination of these.

Remember the R.I.P. criteria to identify bullying:

  • Repeated actions or threats

  • Intention to cause harm

  • Power imbalance

What Bullying is NOT

Not every negative interaction is considered bullying. While these behaviors are still addressed, they fall into distinct categories:

  • Peer Conflicts: Arguments & disagreements, not playing fair, or not liking someone.

  • Isolated Incidents: Someone calling you a name one time, a single episode of social rejection, or a one-time act of tripping or shoving.

  • Accidents & Boundaries: Accidentally bumping into someone, someone not sharing with you, or someone simply not wanting to play.

Together, we can ensure our school remains a safe place for everyone to learn and grow!
