Cool Weather Reminder

As the weather begins to cool down, many students are bringing jackets, sweatshirts, and sweaters to school. To help ensure these items make it back home, please take a moment to label all outerwear with your child's name.

If your child is missing a jacket or sweatshirt, be sure to check our Lost and Found, located in the school cafeteria. Thank you for helping us keep lost items reunited with their owners!

Masonboro Educators Inspire at NC Inclusion Summit

What an incredible honor for Mrs. Avery and Mrs. Allen to serve as presenters at the 2026 North Carolina Inclusion Summit at Appalachian State University in Boone! They had the opportunity to share Masonboro’s inclusion initiative, Acceptance & Inclusion at Masonboro (AIM) and the work happening at our school to foster a school community where every student feels seen, valued, and included.

The conference also provided opportunities for professional learning and collaboration with educators from preschool through higher education. It was an inspiring experience filled with learning, connection, and a shared passion for inclusion. Masonboro is proud to have Mrs. Avery and Mrs. Allen representing our school and sharing the meaningful work happening within our school community!

Practice Makes Fluent Readers

Classrooms across Masonboro are incorporating fluency routines into daily instruction to help students become more confident and successful readers. You can support this work at home by encouraging your child to read aloud for just 10 minutes each night, reread familiar texts, and practice reading with smoothness and expression. Together, school and home can help build strong, fluent readers!

The Five Senses in Action

Kindergarten students have been exploring the five senses through Unit 1 of Wit & Wisdom. Through hands-on activities, they put their senses to the test by comparing salt and sugar using sight, tasting a lime to experience something sour, and using a mystery touch box to identify objects by feel. Learning has been engaging, interactive, and full of discovery!

From Questions to Graphs: Math in Action

Second graders put their math skills into action through a hands-on graphing project! Students created survey questions, collected data from classmates, and used their results to build and analyze picture graphs and bar graphs. Through this engaging activity, they learned how to organize information, compare data, and draw conclusions while exploring fun topics that interested them. It was a great way to see real-world math in action!

Learning About Hearts Inside and Out

Our 4th graders have been reading The Circulatory Story and learning all about how the heart works—both literally and figuratively! Students are discovering how our hearts keep our bodies going while also exploring what it means to have a “great heart” through kindness, courage, compassion, and perseverance. We’re learning that having a great heart is about so much more than what happens inside our bodies!
