From the Principal – Gratitude Today, Kindness Always From the Principal – Gratitude Today, Kindness Always

Hello Riverview Families,

Thank you to all the parents and guardians who joined us for Parent–Teacher Conferences. Your partnership and support mean so much, and we are grateful for the time spent celebrating your child’s growth and planning for their continued success. Together, we truly make a difference in the lives of our Falcons.

As we turn the calendar to October, we are excited to focus on the theme of Kindness. This month, our students will be engaging in activities and conversations that encourage them to show kindness to themselves, their peers, and the greater community. We can’t wait to see the many ways our Falcons will spread positivity and care throughout the month.

Thank you for all you do to support Riverview. It’s a joy to learn and grow alongside this incredible community. I hope to see you all at the Fall Festival on October 10th. Check out the flyer for more information.

Warmly,
Dr. Urban
Riverview Principal

Attendance & Punctuality Reminders Attendance & Punctuality Reminders

  • Our doors open for students at 8:30 AM, and classroom instruction begins promptly at 8:45 AM.
  • Please help remind your child to be in their seat and ready to learn by 8:45—every minute counts, and there is so much exciting learning to be done each day!
  • If your child will be absent, please notify both the office and their classroom teacher. Consistent attendance and on-time arrivals help set students up for success.

Connect, Align, Grow Connect, Align, Grow

At Riverview, our Connect, Align, and Grow goals aren’t just for school, they thrive when our whole community is part of the journey.

  • Connect: Building strong, trusting relationships between students, staff, and families helps every child feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.

  • Align: Working together—home, school, and community, means students hear consistent messages and expectations wherever they go.

  • Grow: When we nurture curiosity, resilience, and responsibility, students become confident learners and caring citizens who make a difference in our community.

Each week, we’ll share a simple way you can support these goals at home and in the community.

ALIGN – Acting with Kindness

At Riverview, we believe kindness is a powerful way for students to show the “A” in SOAR—Act Kindly. When students align their actions and conversations with kindness, they help create a positive and welcoming school community where every Falcon can thrive. Simple choices, like including someone at recess, offering a compliment, or using respectful words, can make a big difference in building strong friendships and trust.

How Families Can Help This Week:
Talk with your child about what kindness looks and sounds like in everyday situations—at home, at school, and with friends. Ask them to share one way they can act kindly each day this week, whether it’s through their words, actions, or attitude. Together, we can help our Falcons grow into compassionate and caring leaders.

Counselor's Corner Counselor's Corner

This month our character trait focus is on Kindness. We are using a puzzle theme for this year’s Peace Week. “Life is a puzzle; solve it Drug and Bully free.” We will be learning and talking about ways to show kindness to ourselves and others. My lesson will focus on being kind and bully-free. Our world needs more kindness. Our definition of kindness is acting with understanding, generosity, and care.

Family Connection Idea:

At home have the conversation about what kindness means to you. The following activities are ways to focus on kindness at home.

  1. Kindness Jar: Create a jar where family members can add notes about kind acts they’ve done or witnessed. Read then together at the end of each month.
  2. Compliment Challenge: Each family member takes turns giving genuine compliments to everyone else. It’s a great way to boost confidence and spread positivity,
  3. Kindness Walk: Go for a family walk and look for opportunities to spread kindness, like picking up trash, complementing people, or helping someone with groceries.
  4. Gratitude Practice: Each night at dinner, share one thing you appreciated about someone else in the family. It fosters gratitude and kindness.

November character trait is Gratitude.

Riverview Site Council Riverview Site Council

Every elementary school in Kansas is required to have a Site Council which is a team of parents, staff, and community members who work together to support school improvement. Site Council members provide input on student learning, school goals, and accreditation efforts, and they serve as an important link between home, school, and the broader community.

At Riverview, our Site Council plays a key role in shaping the work we do to help every Falcon succeed. We invite any interested parents or community members to join us this year. Your voice and perspective make a difference!

If you’d like to get involved, please complete the interest form here: https://forms.gle/opR8u61rrhuknE2F7

Nurse Updates Nurse Updates

A nurse is now available in the office, so please feel free to call or stop by if you need to:

  • Drop off medications or medication orders

  • Inform us of any new health conditions

  • Provide updated immunization records (especially if your child is new to Riverview)

  • Submit a physical exam form (required if your child is attending a Kansas school for the first time and is 8 years old or younger)

We also recommend keeping a change of clothes in your child’s backpack. Accidents and spills—especially during lunch—are common, and we may not always have extra clothing in the right size.

If you prefer, you may also email our nurses directly:

Nancy Tausz – ntausz@usd232.org

Visitor Management System Visitor Management System

Student and staff safety is always our top priority. Riverview will continue using the Centegix Visitor Management System this year, following district safety guidelines. All visitors must check in through the office with a valid photo ID. The ID will be scanned into the system and a visitor sticker with your photo will be printed. This sticker must be worn and visible at all times while in the building.

For the safety of everyone, no visitor will be allowed in the building without a valid ID. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work together to maintain a secure learning environment for our Falcons.

Arrival/Dismissal Arrival/Dismissal

Car Loop Reminder

Please remember to have your student’s name clearly displayed during car loop pick-up. Since staff members rotate and substitutes occasionally cover, having names visible before you pull up to the cones helps us quickly identify students and ensure they are ready when you arrive. This small step keeps the process running smoothly and efficiently for everyone. Thank you for helping us keep the process safe, smooth, and speedy for everyone!

Forgot Something? Use Our Drop-Off Table! Forgot Something? Use Our Drop-Off Table!

For your convenience, we have a Drop-Off Table located just inside the front doors. If your student forgot something, like their lunch, instrument, glasses, or any other classroom item, you can simply buzz in, drop it off, and be on your way. No need to sign in or go through the visitor management system. Just remember to write your student’s name on the sticky notes provided so we can make sure it gets to them quickly. Thank you for helping keep our drop-offs smooth and efficient!
