Principal ~ Aspen Burkett

Hello West Wildcats!

As we step into November, we’re filled with gratitude for the incredible people who make West Middle School such a special community. This month, we pause to honor and celebrate our veterans in our community and around the nation who have served with courage and commitment. We are deeply thankful for their sacrifices and the example they set for our students each day. We look forward to our Veteran's Day celebration on November 14, 2025.

We also want to extend a huge thank you to our PTCO and West families for your generosity and partnership. Because of your support, our teachers will be able to purchase additional classroom supplies and materials that will enhance their lessons, sparking creativity, and increasing student engagement and academic success.

Your continued support reminds us of what’s possible when a community comes together around shared purpose and care for our students. Thank you for all you do to help West thrive.

In gratitude,

Aspen Burkett, Principal

WMS TURKEY TROT WMS TURKEY TROT

West Turkey Trot – Tuesday, November 25!

Students, get ready to move, give, and celebrate community at our First Annual West Turkey Trot! All students will have the chance to walk, jog, or run during their elective period as we promote fitness, gratitude, and connection across our West community.

Students are encouraged to bring one non-perishable canned food item to support the Cherry Creek School District Resource Pantry. After school, join us for a bake sale, with all proceeds going toward our annual Puppy Project, which helps purchase a service puppy for a deserving military veteran.

There will be music, water stations, and a “gratitude stop” where students can write messages of thanks on West paw prints. Weather permitting, we’ll head outdoors, but we have an indoor route ready too!

Let’s come together as one West community to celebrate health, wellness, and gratitude. 🧡

STUDENT GRATITUDE CHALLENGE STUDENT GRATITUDE CHALLENGE

This month let’s help our students practice gratitude and appreciation! The Student Gratitude Challenge is an easy way to encourage kindness, reflection, and positivity in the classroom and at home throughout November. Some teachers will be engaging in this challenge in their Advisory class. Your students can get a copy from their Advisory teacher or at the main office. This can also be done as a family. Have a November filled with Gratitude!

VETERANS DAY VETERANS DAY

ATTENTION FAMILIES

Eight years ago, West Middle School began a partnership with Hero’s Puppy For Life.org to raise money for veterans suffering from PTSD. We use the money raised to purchase service dogs, one year of veterinary care, and service-dog training for the veterans and their animals.

There are several ways you can support this goal.

  1. Donate online!
  2. Purchase baked goods during conferences from our NJHS students and sponsors, who will be selling these items in the main hallway.

Additionally, to celebrate our WMS Community, we would like to take a second to invite any and all veterans for our celebration! See the invite below and email Barb Hilinski with any questions!

COUNSELING COUNSELING

Never Stop Learning!

At our school, we believe learning doesn’t end when the bell rings. Each day, students are discovering how classroom lessons connect to the world around them—using math to solve real-life challenges, applying science to everyday experiences, and using reading and writing to share ideas and make an impact. We encourage our students to stay curious, ask questions, and keep pushing themselves.

Families can help keep that excitement going at home! Try asking your student what they learned today, what they’re working on in class, or what surprised them. These conversations can spark motivation, build confidence, and remind students that learning is meaningful, relevant, and lifelong.

Transportation is required by CDE Regulations to account for all students on the bus and unauthorized passengers are not permitted. However, the Transportation Department recognizes that circumstances may arise, e.g. a family emergency, parents out of town, etc., when a student needs to ride home with another student on a one-time only basis. The student must get off at the assigned stop of the student they are riding with (no exceptions).

Make sure to fill out and turn in the linked Permission Slip to the Campus Admins office no later than 9:00 AM on the requested ride date. Forms can be printed and handed to the Campus Admins Assistant. Hard copies of the form can be picked up from the Campus Admins office if they are needed but must be picked up prior to the day they need to ride a different bus. No emails will be accepted. If there is an emergency, please call the Campus Admins office at 720-554-5155.
