Welcome to Issue #1 of 2026-2027!
What a great start to the school year. Our campus has been buzzing with learning, energy, and smiles as students dive into their learning and events which has been designed to help them grow, express themselves, and build lasting friendships beyond the classroom.
We started off the term by strengthening our school community through our parent information sessions, where it was wonderful connecting with so many of you to share a clearer window into your child’s learning and how we do things here at Kingston. Soon after, learning expanded beyond textbook pages as students headed out on field trips to experience their lessons in the real world. Our campus then burst into vibrant color for International Dot Day, with students and staff dressing up in dots to celebrate creativity and self-expression.
Leadership and talent have also taken center stage over these past few weeks. During the Student Representative Council Elections, candidates brought passion to their campaigns while their peers turned out eagerly to vote. Beyond the academic day, our diverse ECA extra-curricular activities are already helping students discover new passions and unlock their potential. Most recently, we brought everyone together for the Mid-Autumn Festival to solve traditional lantern riddles and share delicious mooncakes.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in making our school community such a great place to be. These shared experiences create precious memories for our students, and we look forward to many more memorable moments ahead this year.

Y6 Taster Day @ ICHK
On the morning of Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Year 6 classes embarked on a field trip to ICHK Secondary. Students from KIS, ICHK (Primary), and JIS were invited to visit ICHK Secondary for a half-day experience of secondary school. During this visit, the Year 6 students had the chance to explore the school, attend classes, and engage in discussions with secondary students and teachers about the next phase of their education.
The day included a schedule of lessons in Science, English, Human Technologies, and Arts. The aim was to provide the graduating class with an exciting and interesting snapshot of secondary school. For those applying to ICHK, it was an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the people, premises, and potential future classmates. Even for those not applying, it offered a chance to see a secondary school in action and glimpse life in that environment. Students were able to ask Kingston graduates about their experiences while also posing questions to the ICHK Head of School and teachers.
Lanterns and Ice-mooncakes Making to Celebrate Mid-autumn Festival
This month, the Kingston family has already started many Mid-Autumn Festival celebration activities, including lantern-making and icy mooncakes making, to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. On September 25th, students will also wear traditional Chinese costumes and guess lantern riddles to win prizes! We also had parent volunteers come to the school to celebrate the festival with the students and play lantern riddle guessing games together. Let's all give a big thank you to mother from Y2.1 Hailey CHAN, River SAI’s mother from Y3.1, Hailey Wong’s mother from Y5.1, Elsa CHIU's mother from Y5.1 and Eric ZHANG 's mother from Y5.3!
Chinese Inquiry
During the first two weeks of the school year, Y1 and Y2 students completed the pre-assessments for Chinese character and vocabulary knowledge, while Y3 to Y6 students completed the pre-assessment for adaptive reading. Everyone was fully focused on completing their reading passages.
In the Y5 Chinese lessons, students researched Confucius — the great scholar, educator, and "Teacher of All Ages" — and delivered group oral presentations to their classmates. The content was rich and the presentations were delivered with great confidence.
Our English Principal, Mr. Walker, is deeply interested in Chinese learning. He regularly visits classrooms to learn Pinyin and write Chinese characters alongside the students. Look at how diligently he studies — our students have become his little teachers!
The Chinese Reading Quiz Club has also begun. Members return to school every Monday at 8:00 AM to read under the guidance of their teacher, preparing for this year's International School Chinese Reading Quiz Competition.
