Parents/Guardians: We Need Your Help!

As we start the new year, we want to share some important reminders below that we believe will further help make Arthur Rann the wonderful place it is for learning. Unfortunately, prior to the winter break, we were experiencing an increase in vandalism, particularly in our bathrooms. These incidents are disrespectful and cost money to repair and/or clean up. We need your help in please reminding your student(s) to use the bathroom appropriately and with respect and care. Everyone enjoys a clean and functioning bathroom that is safe and free of graffiti, etc.

We appreciate your assistance with this important matter. Thank you for taking the time to discuss these points with your child(ren).

Parents/Guardians: We Need Your Help!

Additionally, we noticed an increase in out-of-school issues related to online gaming and group chats that made their way into school, disrupting the educational day for children and staff. We try to remind students that what they text/write (and even say) can be hurtful and also can cause greater issues for the offender if he/she is communicating inappropriately and/or in derogatory or hurtful ways—not to mention the harm that can be done to the one about whom the correspondence is directed). A helpful practice can be to ask one’s self if something is kind or helpful before it is said, texted, or written to or about someone else.

We appreciate your assistance with this important matter. Thank you for taking the time to discuss these points with your child(ren).

Helpful Points to Reinforce with Your Students

· Cell phones should not be seen or heard in school. Also…students may not take pictures or videos at school, on the bus, etc.

· Please encourage children to speak, write/text, and act with respect. (BE AWARE OF YOUR CHILD’S ONLINE AND PHONE ACTIVITIES AT ALL TIMES.)

· Encourage children to always do their best.

· Please be on time for school and attend regularly as there is important learning happening every day.

· Respect our school (including self, staff, students, bathrooms, materials, bus, etc.).

· Please remember to adhere to the student dress code.

· Make every day a WONDERFUL one!

TEACHING AT HOME

At Rann, we pride ourselves on the partnership we share between home and school. While we understand that parents/guardians are the primary “teachers” in their children’s lives, we also recognize the importance of this home and school partnership we share together. The time that children spend at home can be full of interesting, educational, and creative activities. Parents/guardians have a remarkable opportunity to take advantage of time spent with their children to help increase her/his curiosity, energy, and enthusiasm for learning. Families can utilize common items within the home to support this learning, such as books, newspapers, TV, technology, clocks, measuring utensils, thermometers, etc. Everyday activities can be wonderful learning opportunities for children.

We hope that you will appreciate some suggested skills to help further foster in the home below:

·

Physical Skills – Choose toys and activities that work with small and large muscle groups. Encourage activities that further promote strength and coordination.

· Intellectual Skills – Use word and number games, write messages back and forth, make lists, provide learning materials, and read, read, read! Utilize math skills in games, shopping, on trips, etc.

· Speech and Language Skills – Incorporate language skills by asking questions and encouraging your child to ask questions. Discuss many things! Tell stories, write stories, and talk about daily experiences.

· Listening Skills – Children may improve listening skills by listening to audio books and describing what they heard. Provide children with a set of directions and have them follow in sequence.

· Visual Skills – Use objects in the home to assist your student in identifying shapes, understand measurement, learn about colors, and notice details. Memory games based on what a child has seen on a trip, at the park, etc.

· Social Skills – Social skills are strengthened as a child develops self-confidence and the ability to explore and try new things. Provide a variety of experiences for your child (e.g. outdoor walks, trips to the store, and interaction with others, etc.).

TOGETHER, we make a difference! We hope that some of these ideas are most helpful for you and your student(s)! Please reach out if we can ever assist in any way!
