Dear Harbor Light Christian School Family,

As we prepare to celebrate Harbor Light Christian School’s 40th Anniversary on August 22, I have found myself reflecting on the importance of history and the stories that shape who we are. Before God called me into school administration, I had the privilege of teaching history, and that experience deepened my appreciation for the power of the past. I have always loved history—not simply because of the major events that fill textbooks, but because history is a collection of countless individual stories. It is made up of ordinary people, faithful decisions, unexpected moments, and unique perspectives that, woven together, tell a much greater story.

As we look back at Harbor Light’s story, we see more than four decades of dates and milestones. We see God’s faithfulness.

Forty years ago, Harbor Light Christian School was not built on impressive facilities, large enrollments, or abundant resources. It began with something much stronger—a group of faithful men and women who believed God was calling them to establish a school where Christ would be honored, Scripture would be central, and young people would be discipled to know and follow Him. They prayed. They trusted. They stepped out in faith. Their obedience laid a foundation that has supported generations of students and families.

Psalm 78 reminds us of the importance of remembering and sharing God’s faithfulness:

"We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done... so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children."

Psalm 78:4, 6

This has always been at the heart of Harbor Light’s mission—to prepare the next generation of leaders for Christ. When we look back over these 40 years, we don't simply see buildings, programs, or accomplishments. We see the many ways God has worked through people who were willing to serve Him.

We see teachers who invested in students beyond the classroom. We see students who discovered their God-given gifts. We see parents who partnered with us in raising their children. We see alumni who are now serving Christ in their homes, churches, workplaces, and communities. We see thousands of moments—both ordinary and extraordinary—that together tell the story of God’s goodness to Harbor Light Christian School.

Just like history itself, our school’s story cannot be fully captured in a timeline. It lives in the memories, photographs, friendships, classrooms, chapels, victories, challenges, and lives that have been transformed along the way. Every family who has walked our halls has contributed a chapter.

That is why I want to personally invite everyone who is part of the Harbor Light Christian School family—past and present—to join us for our 40th Anniversary Celebration on August 22. We would love to see you, whether you were a student, parent, grandparent, teacher, staff member, volunteer, board member, or faithful supporter; you are part of this story.

As you come, we invite you to share a favorite memory or story. Those personal moments are what make our history so rich, and we look forward to celebrating them together.

More than anything, this milestone fills our hearts with gratitude. We are deeply thankful for every person who has prayed, served, given, encouraged, and sacrificed to make Harbor Light Christian School what it is today. Thank you for believing in the mission of Christian education and for helping shape generations of young people.

Looking back reminds us that God has been faithful in every season. That same faithfulness gives us great hope, confident expectation, and peace as we look ahead. The God who guided Harbor Light’s beginning continues to lead us today. He is still at work, still calling students to know Him, still equipping teachers and families, and still preparing the next generation of leaders for Christ.

Our story is not finished. In many ways, we are just getting started.

We cannot wait to celebrate with you on August 22 as we thank God for the past and look forward with great anticipation to all He has in store for Harbor Light Christian School in the years ahead.

With gratitude and in Christ-centered education,

Kelly Dutcher, Administrator

We’re excited to share the winner of our 6th Annual Vehicle Raffle, held in partnership with Dave Kring Chevrolet — Anne Chamberlin, a 2025 graduate of Harbor Light Christian School, is the proud new owner of a 2026 Chevy Trailblazer!

Anne purchased just one ticket to support HLCS — and that one ticket turned out to be the winner!

This year’s drawing felt especially meaningful as we watched one of our own alumni drive away with the grand prize. After graduating from HLCS in 2025, Anne spent time with YWAM before returning home in January. Since then, she has remained connected to Harbor Light, faithfully volunteering her time and serving the school community that played such an important role in her own journey.

For Anne, the timing of the win made it even more meaningful.

“When I heard that I won the car, I was shocked! What a blessing!

I got the call on the last day of helping out at Mancelona Camp. Looking back, I realized something. Just that morning, I had laid down my fears of the unknown future to God, and then He blessed me with a brand-new car! I felt like that was the Lord saying, ‘I will provide for you, as you’ve placed your trust in Me.’ WOW, He’s given me so much more than I deserve or need.”

Kelly shared, “There’s something so special about seeing one of our recent graduates win this year’s Trailblazer. Anne purchased one ticket to support HLCS, and seeing her name pulled was such a fun moment for our entire community. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who purchased a ticket, shared the raffle, and helped make this fundraiser possible.”

We’re also deeply thankful for our continued partnership with Dave Kring Chevrolet. Their generosity and support have helped make this raffle a meaningful fundraiser for HLCS year after year.

Congratulations, Anne! What a joy to celebrate with you and see this unexpected blessing in your life!

And thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket, spread the word, and supported this year’s raffle. Every ticket helps further the mission of HLCS and invest in the next generation of leaders for Christ.

We truly couldn’t do it without you!
