🎉BIG NEWS! 🎉Registration for our schoolwide Colbert Harvest Hustle is now open! Visit MyBooster.com and get your student signed up today to learn more.
We can't wait for the annual Harvest Hustle on Tuesday, October 7. This is a fundraiser for our PE department and helps us purchase equipment as well as offer fun experiences for our students throughout the year. Parents are welcome to come cheer on their child while they run laps and celebrate physical fitness. If you want to attend, these are the times students will be racing:
Kindergarten: 9:20
First Grade: 10:05
Second Grade: 11:05
Third Grade: 11:50
Fourth Grade: 2:05
Fifth Grade: 1:20
Students in second through fifth grade are encouraged to read at least 20 minutes every night. If students finish a book, they can take an Accelerated Reader (AR) quiz on the book to earn points. Students can get to AR through Classlink on their Chromebook. It is called "Renaissance Learning." Students who earn enough points to meet their first quarter goal will participate in a UGA Tailgate Party later in October!
To check your child's progress, go to login.renaissance.com and search to find our school. You can set up a parent account that will notify you when your child takes AR tests. Your child's username is their lunch number, and the password is madison (all lowercase).
We want all students to earn the UGA Tailgate party! Happy reading!
Our Fall Book Fair will be here Monday, October 6-Thursday, October 9. We can't wait for students to pick out and purchase fun new books for your home library! The times for the Book Fair are listed below:
Monday, October 6: 7:45am-3:45pm
Tuesday, October 7: 7:45am-9:00am; Closed to participate in the Harvest Hustle; reopens at 3:15-3:45
Wednesday, October 8: 7:45am-3:45pm
Thursday, October 9: 7:45am-7:00pm
School will dismiss at 12:30 on Thursday, October 9. Students who are not picked up in car riders by 12:45 will be sent to After School and will need to pay the daily fee.
Parents are invited to come in that evening to meet with teachers and shop at the Book Fair. Forms will come home to schedule a time with your child's teacher. We can't wait to see everyone!
There will be no school for students on Friday, October 10 and Monday, October 13. There is a teacher in-service day on Friday, October 10. Monday, October 13 is Fall Break. We will see everyone again on Tuesday, October 14.
We will celebrate the love of reading by having a Book Character Day on Friday, October 31. Students are encouraged to dress as a favorite book character. This is not a Halloween costume day. You are welcome to do an online search for fun ideas. This is completely optional, but we hope many students join us for the fun! We will have a Book Character Parade after the Cougar Pride Assembly that morning. Parents are welcome to attend!
Kindergarten parents are invited to celebrate Thanksgiving with kindergarten students on Friday, November 21 at 1:45pm. More information will come!
Athens' very own professional hockey team, the Athens Rock Lobsters, are passionate about encouraging kids to read. They are offering a free ticket to one of their hockey games for every student who reads 1,000 minutes between now and December 12. The ticket will be dispersed after Christmas, and the game will be for a home game sometime in February or March.
Kindergarten and First Grade: You have received paper reading logs. Fill these out each time you read, and turn it in if you need a new one. We will keep all of the logs that are turned in and will submit your name to the Rock Lobsters once you reach 1,000 minutes.
Second through Fifth Grades: Students who have 35 AR points by December 12 will have their name submitted to the Rock Lobsters for a free ticket.
We hope you have a fantastic time reading and earning your free ticket to a hockey game!
