VFW PAHA SAPA OF STURGIS DONATED $1000 TO DEBATE

The VFW Paha Sapa of Sturgis recently donated $1,000 to the Sturgis Brown High School Debate team to assist with travel expenses to the national tournament in Richmond, VA to be held June 15 - 19. Coach Tamara Voight and national qualifier Ian Johnson attending a recent meeting and shared what Debate is and what students do. The 2026 National Qualifiers are:

Hunter Scott - Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking

Riley Carlson - International Extemporaneous Speaking

Kate Bestgen - Oratory

Madisyn Richter - Oratory

Sharon Vinson and Joy Ateyo, representing the VFW Paha Sapa, shared how impressed they were with the program and all the students learn and do.

HONORS BIOLOGY PARTICIPATES IN NOXIOUS WEEDS PROJECT

On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Mrs. Wheaton's Honors Biology participated in the Noxious Weeds Project. The project is in conjunction with the US Forest Service and began in 2012. Students transect a location in Vannocker Canyon and remove the noxious weeds growing along the transects. Most noxious weeds are declining , and pollinators are moving into the area.

SBHS SUMMER SCHOOL

Sturgis Brown High School offers 2026 Summer School for current SBHS students. The program allows students an opportunity to earn additional credits. Sign up deadline is May 21 and there is a mandatory informational meeting scheduled for Monday, May 18 at 3:00 p.m. in Room 100. Each class costs $75 and is worth half a credit, with students required to pay for one class at a time. Students with questions please contact your advisor for further guidance.
