The Principal's Post The Principal's Post

Dear RMS Families,

We’ve had a successful start to the school year, and it’s been wonderful to welcome all of our students back!

As we kick off the new year, we’re excited to begin our fall sports season, and our school clubs will be opening up soon as well—stay tuned for more information.

Throughout the month of September, students in all grades will be participating in NWEA testing. If you have any questions about testing or anything else, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

We’re so excited to be back and to make this a fantastic school year!

Warm regards,

Lyndsey DeTroia

Principal

Students should be dressed in a manner that supports learning. Common decency and good judgment are the expectations for student attire.

  • Students who are inappropriately dressed will be asked to fix the concern or call their parents for a change of clothes. Students who are unable to reach a parent for clothes may be asked to wait at a set location until a parent can be reached.

  • Clothing and / or accessories that could pose a safety issue are not allowed. This includes slippers or other footwear.

  • Inappropriate messages (alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, gang-related, sexually suggestive, profanity or violence, etc.) are not allowed on clothing.

  • Headphones / earbuds are not to be visible or worn in the classroom. They can be used in the hallway and cafe.

  • No bandanas.

  • Except for approved religious / medical purposes, head coverings may not be worn in classrooms. They can be worn in the halls and the cafeteria.

  • No sunglasses. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons with appropriate documentation from a doctor.

  • Chains must not be seen.

  • Appropriate pajama pants are acceptable.

  • No costumes unless administrator approval has been given.

  • Small purses are allowed.

  • Winter coats / jackets / vests / book bags / backpacks must be kept in lockers or classrooms during the school day.

  • No blankets or pillows.

  • Flags may not be worn as clothing

  • We recognize that student dress is primarily a family responsibility that should reflect concern for the health and safety of students.

Families will be contacted if the administration determines that their student’s clothing is inappropriate and alternate clothing is not available.

Hello Families!

What a wonderful thing it was to welcome all the students to school today!

This message is just a reminder to send in any paper reading logs if your child completed one for summer reading! We know many students signed up for summer reading through the Rochester Public Library, but if your family chose to track summer reading minutes with a paper reading log, please have your student turn in their paper log to their teacher no later than Friday, September 5th.

Our summer reading team will be recognizing readers at each school next week, and we want to be sure we recognize all readers who tracked reading minutes this summer, either online OR on paper.

Questions? Reach out to the reading specialist at your school!

Many thanks,

Ms. Pettis
