Week 20

Dear MUMS community,

This week our 8th grade students engaged in two different transitional activities as they begin to imagine themselves at High School students! Wednesday morning they visited the Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center to understand how they can incorporate introductory courses into their 9th grade experience. On Thursday, MUHS counselors visited MUMS to assist our 8th graders in 9th grade course registration! These two activities are just a few pieces of our transitional process from 8th-9th grade.

In the coming weeks we will officially begin our 5th-6th grade transition. We look forward to engaging our current student body in this process and are grateful for the support of our community in a smooth transition.

We hope you all stay safe and warm this weekend and appreciate your partnership.

Best,

Michaela Wisell ~ Principal

From the MYP Coordinator

Greetings MUMS Caregivers!

We hope that February finds you well! Here at ACSD, Language Acquisition is a core component of our curriculum in grades 6-10. Learning a new language offers students many benefits. Research shows it develops better memory, problem-solving skills, concentration, and creativity. It helps students expand their perspective and see the world more fully. It also equips students with intercultural communication skills essential for success in today's globalized world.

In 8th grade Spanish, students just finished a unit, “Mi Casa Es Su Casa”. In this unit, students learn about the intersection of houses and culture, what homes look like in the hispanic world, vocabulary of the home and adjectives to describe in detail.

As one of their summatives, students create a visual and written description of their “dream home”. Students really got into this, creating illustrations and even 3-D models! These visuals were accompanied by a paragraph written in Spanish.

💡Talk to your student: What skills are they learning in Spanish/French that they can use in the future? How does learning a language help them see the world?

  • Early dismissal + bus notes: Students must deliver a caregiver's note to the front office when arriving at school (before TA).

Shoreham/Cornwall bus caveats

Please use the "button" above to preview our ACSD bus routes.

Also please note a few caveats that impact students who ride Cornwall or Shoreham buses home.

Cornwall and Shoreham buses do not come to MUMS at pick-up time. Students who ride those buses must take a shuttle from MUMS to MUHS to meet their bus.

Cornwall students use the Bridport bus as their MUMS-MUHS shuttle and get on the Cornwall bus at the High school to ride home.
Shoreham students use the Weybridge bus as their MUMS-MUHS shuttle and get on the Shoreham bus at the High school to ride home.
