Important Weather Items & Flexible Instructional Days (FID)
Good morning,
With the current weather conditions, we want to keep you informed about what to expect. Please read the information below carefully, and reach out to your child’s teachers if you have any questions regarding assignments.
If we are closed on Monday and/or Tuesday, those days will be Flexible Instructional Days (FID). FIDs are implemented when school buildings need to close without disrupting the instructional calendar. When a FID is implemented, Council Rock will notify the community via email, phone, text, and social media.
Important Asynchronous FID Information:
Attendance will be taken based on assignment submission.
Teachers will post assignments in Canvas by 9:00 AM on the morning of the asynchronous FID.
Completed assignments must be submitted by 8:00 PM on the following day.
Some teachers may assign work packets for students to complete; these assignments will be due when students return to class.
If you have questions about asynchronous FIDs, please contact your child’s teacher(s) directly. Teachers will be available throughout the school day via email to answer questions and assist with accessing assignments.
Try to have some fun, but please be safe.

Student Lunch Drop-Offs
This is a reminder that NMS does not permit lunches purchased from local establishments to be dropped off at the front office. If your child needs a lunch during the school day, we ask that they purchase one from the school cafeteria.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Use of Emerging Technologies and Electronic Devices
As new technologies continue to emerge, please note that they remain subject to our existing school policies. These policies are outlined in the Student & Parent Handbook on page 24 (Cell Phones and Other Communication Devices) and page 27 (Electronic Devices), as well as Board Policy 237.
To date, our policies have specifically referenced items such as cell phones and smartwatches. In alignment with these policies, AI-enabled and meta smart wearables (including, but not limited to, Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses) are prohibited on school property during school hours.
If a student is found wearing or using one of these devices, the school will follow the same protocols currently in place for cell phone and smartwatch violations.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a focused and secure learning environment.
Sincerely,
Newtown Middle School Administration
