Message from the Pilot & Co-Pilot: Ms. Gause & Miss O'Hara
Happy New Year & Welcome Back!
Happy New Year to our school families! We hope you enjoyed a restful and joyful break. We are excited to welcome everyone back as we begin the second semester and the second half of our school year.
A new year brings a fresh start and a new chapter—a time to reset, refocus, and finish strong. Our staff is energized and ready to continue supporting our students as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
As we move into the new semester, we will continue to hold high expectations for all students. This includes following school and bus rules, staying focused on learning, and striving for academic excellence each day. Consistent expectations help create a safe, supportive environment where students can succeed.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. When we work together, we help our students take flight and reach their full potential. We are excited for a strong and successful second semester!
Warmly, Ms. Gause & Miss O'Hara

Music News - Mrs. Kristi
3rd Grade Students & Families
This year, as part of the third grade music curriculums, we will learn to play the
soprano recorder. If your child does not have a recorder, purchasing a recorder is fairly
inexpensive. The school also has “school recorders” which can be loaned to students to
play during the recorder unit. The school recorders are sanitized and must be returned
to Mrs. Kristi Smith at the end of the recorder unit.
If you choose to purchase a recorder through the school the cost is $4.00 each.
These recorders are a good quality educational recorder and are very durable.
Recorders may be kept in the music room but can go home with the students to practice.
School recorders may also go home with the students to practice.
Please complete the order information on the back of this letter and return to
Mrs. Kristi Smith. Please read the letter linked below.
Thank you, Mrs. Kristi

ADOPT A COW PROGRAM
Our media center is participating in the Adopt A Cow Program and has adopted an actual live calf growing up on a dairy farm. Her name is Sallie from Dusty Road Jersey Farm (dairy farm), located in Statesville, NC. Our calf will not be living in our classroom, but will continue to live on the farm by our host farmer. We receive monthly updates about her that include information, pictures, and videos. These updates include lessons and activities related to her growth, how she is cared for on the farm, and how milk is produced on the farm. We are excited to follow her journey on the farm while learning more about dairy farming and where milk comes from.
To see the calf photos too, scan one of the QR codes or click the a link below to download the Discover Dairy app. Use the Cow Code SALLIE to access our farm and calf information.
Please reach out to Mrs. Zemp if you have any questions or need help accessing the site to watch Sallie grow!
Enabling Parent Controls in Sora
Parents and guardians can enable Parental Controls in Sora, Brunswick County School’s Digital Library, by logging into their child’s Sora account and navigating to their Support options. Parent Mode allows parents and guardians to monitor checkout history to lock or unlock titles.
Brunswick County Schools does filter the collection based on grade level bands (ES, MS, and HS) as well, ensuring that titles meant for specific groups are only available to those select groups.

Nurse News - Nurse Cindy
As we move through the school year, please remember the importance of keeping students home when they are sick. Children should stay home if they have a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or are not feeling well enough to participate in school activities. Keeping sick students home helps protect their health, supports their recovery, and prevents the spread of illness to classmates and staff. Thank you, Nurse Cindy
