Important: Transcript and Letter of Recommendation Request Procedures

As you begin your college application process, I want to ensure you have clear guidance on how to request your official transcripts and letters of recommendation. Please carefully follow the steps outlined below to ensure your materials are processed correctly.

Important Processing Note:

Once you submit a request, please allow up to 7 days for your transcripts to be processed due to the high volume of applications. Additionally, please allow at least two weeks for letters of recommendation. Please note that I cannot upload letters of recommendation until all your necessary tasks are completed.

Step 1: Naviance Preparation

  1. Log In: Access Naviance using your school email account. You can log in directly via the "nine dots" (app launcher) in the corner of your Gmail account. If you have trouble logging in, please request a password reset.
  2. Update College List: Navigate to the "Colleges" tab and update your list under "Colleges I’m Applying To" with all schools you are considering.

Step 2: Common App & Account Matching

(Note: If you are applying directly to a school's website rather than through Common App, you can skip this step.)

  1. Create Account: Create your account at Common AppLinks to an external site.. I highly recommend using your personal email address for this.
  2. Match Accounts: In Naviance, click "Match Accounts" and follow the prompts to sync your profiles. Remember: Common App syncs to Naviance, but Naviance does not sync back to Common App.

Step 3: Making Official Requests

  1. Transcripts: In Naviance, go to "Colleges I am Applying To" > "+/Request Transcripts." Select the specific transcripts and destinations, then click "Request and Finish."
  2. Letters of Recommendation: Go to "Colleges" > "Letters of Recommendation" > "Add Request." Select your teacher, specify the type of request, and click "Submit."
    • Tip: Please send a thank-you note to the teachers writing your recommendations. When requesting a letter, be sure to provide them with a few bullet points about yourself, your post-graduation goals, and your "why."
    • If you have outside LoR you would like sent, please have them email the letter to me, at rjansen@dcsdk12.org

A Final Reminder on Final Transcripts

The Senior Survey (open after Spring Break) is critical for your final transcripts. If you select “none” in the survey, your final transcripts will not be sent anywhere. Please keep this in mind as we approach the end of the year.

I will handle sending all materials once you have completed your requests in Naviance. If you have any questions or run into issues, please feel free to stop by my office.

Best of luck with your applications,

Mrs. Jansen

COLLEGE FAIR

On October 1st, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, the Counseling Team will be hosting a College Fair in the North Gym. This event provides a high-value space for upperclassmen to explore post-secondary pathways and connect directly with college representatives. Because of scheduling constraints, the event will overlap with the final 11 minutes of 5th period as well as the first part of advisement.

Please note that attendance for this college fair is strictly for Juniors and Seniors.

To ensure smooth logistics, we are requiring Juniors and Seniors to pre-register using Strive Scan. Showing their active Strive Scan confirmation on their phone will serve as their pass to leave class. That said, your instructional authority and discretion remain paramount—if you feel a student needs to remain in class for academic reasons, we fully support your decision. The QR code and promotional flyer are attached here if you would like to share them with your students or post them in your classroom.

Thank you so much for your continued partnership and support in guiding our students toward their post-secondary success. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
