Baby Pictures: Grade 9 Leaving Celebration

As a part of our Grade 9 Leaving celebrations, we are creating a slideshow featuring our grade 9 students to highlight their growth over the years. The presentation will include each student's grade 9 school pictures (we already have these) alongside a photograph of them as a baby, toddler, or during their early school years. Please select one picture only to email to laurenandrews@nlesd.ca and be sure to include the name of your child.

Request for Feedback – Family Survey

Dear Parent/Guardian,

School Development Surveys are conducted annually to gather feedback from students, staff, and parents/guardians to inform the school development process. The survey results will be provided to your child’s school and used with other data to identify the school’s strengths and challenges. Your child’s school will then create and implement a plan to build on successes and address areas of challenge.

The survey is anonymous, which means that we cannot connect your survey responses to you. We encourage everyone to participate so that we have the most accurate representation of family perceptions at your school.

Please complete the survey by clicking on the following link: https://www.research.net/r/SDFamily2324EN. If you do not have internet access, contact your school.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the school development surveys, please contact:

  • Allan Johnson at 709-729-7831 or allanjohnson@gov.nl.ca or
  • Patricia Emberley at 709-729-6850 or patriciaemberley@gov.nl.ca

Thank you for your participation and for being a valued member of your school community.

Sincerely,
Dr. Carolyn Stacey for Joanne Hogan
Director, Evaluation and Research Division

Easter Activities - we had loads of Easter fun!

Easter Swag

March 28 was Easter accessory day. Students and staff were encouraged to wear their best Easter swag.

Guess the Number of Easter Treats Contest

Guess the number of Easter Treats: The last week before Easter, we had a contest for students to guess the number of treats in a container. Students were able to submit guesses to the office March 25-27. The student who guessed the correct or closest number won the container of treats.

Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt

From March 25-27, Easter eggs of different sizes and points were hidden each day around the school. Students brought their eggs to be recorded for their homeroom. The homeroom at each grade level with the most points won prizes for their class.

Easter BINGO

We played whole-school Easter Bingo over Google Meet during period 5 on Thursday, March 28. Our student council president (Reid Edwards) and vice-president (Nathan Stanley) called the Bingo and prizes were awarded for each Bingo.

Ultimate Frisbee

MDJH's Ultimate Frisbee Team continues to practice on Sundays from 7:30-9pm. We have a great group of committed and enthusiastic players who have been steadily improving all year!

As students prepare for their provincial tournament in May, we are looking for more female (or non-binary) players to join the team. Ultimate Frisbee is co-ed sport and teams must have more than one gender represented to play in competition in Junior High.

This is a great opportunity for students to get involved with a new sport and to learn new skills. Many of our students have only started playing this year and have already learned a lot, thanks to our excellent coaches. Students who have played other sports can easily adapt those skills to Ultimate Frisbee and anyone can quickly pick up the basics of the sport. If students have any interest in trying out the sport, now is a great time! Come out to a practice and see what you think!

Anyone who is interested can check in with Mr. Downey in Room 210, email chrisdowney@nlesd.ca, or just come on out on Sunday night!
