A note from the principal
Dear Park Brook Families,
MCA (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments) season has arrived! The MCA's are used to determine interventions and programming for individual students, as well as assist us as a school in monitoring and adjusting programs that we offer.
Please see below for more information regarding MCA's. However, students should come to school prepared to do their best, and if we could get them to slow down and take their time, they will do just fine.
Typically, Park Brook posts strong academic growth as demonstrated by the MCA's, and this year I am hopeful based upon my observations in classrooms, student engagement in classrooms during the school day, and learning beyond the school day.
On Friday, April 10 was my birthday. I received precious cards from the students, which I enjoy reading each and every card. It is a privilege for me to work with each and every student at Park Brook. I enjoy the work that I do, and running a school that offers so many additional opportunities for students, because of the students.

Spring Boot Camp
Boot Camp is an after school activity for students to increase movement, to increase academic growth. One may be wondering why a Boot Camp after MCA's are finished; there is still a month-and-a-half of school after the MCA's are complete, and we continue with instruction through the end of the school year.
The Spring Boot Camp is for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.

4th & 5th Grade Field Trip to Camp Ihduhapi - District 279 Foundation
Fourth and fifth grade students will spend one day in May at Camp Ihduhapi, part of the YMCA of the North. Park Brook Elementary is appreciative of the generous grant from the District 279 Foundation, and funding resources from the YMCA of the North.
Details coming soon!
Bigfoot Hide and Sneak
The YMCA of the North has another fun-filled, outdoor event that Park Brook Families are welcome to enjoy. This is not a school field trip, families will need to attend as a family. The YMCA of the North is offering a 20% discount for all Park Brook Families if you use the code: 20BIGFOOT26. (This code is strictly for Park Brook Families.)
The Resilinator and Kidarod are both sponsored by the YMCA of the North. These are two events that many Park Brook Students have enjoyed over the years.

Pre-K Students - Making a Robot Taller Than Mr. Taylor
Pre-K students created a robot with the goal of making it taller than Mr. Taylor. On Friday, April 10, the students made predictions about how many inches tall their robot was, then measured the robot, then measured Mr. Taylor. Their robot was taller than Mr. Taylor. (Their robot was doing the splits, so if the robot could stand up, definitely taller than Mr. Taylor!)
Students also created, if they chose, their own robot.

Students Connecting Through International Service
This is the 18th year Park Brook Elementary has been a part of Students Connecting Through International Service. This program provides school supplies for a students in Sasabe, Sonora, Mexico through the generosity of Park Brook Families and the families at the other schools who participate in this program.
Each year, one student representative travels to Arizona to deliver the school supplies, host a party at the U.S./Mexico Border, meet their pen pals at Sopori Elementary in Amado, AZ; tour the University of Arizona, learn by touring Kartchner Caverns, and much more. Park Brook Students will learn all about the trip in May at an all-school assembly.
Julie was the representative this year, traveling from Tuesday, April 7 - Sunday, April 12. Next year, in September, students in 5th grade who are interested will be able to complete an application to be the Park Brook Representative.

Osseo Area Schools' mission includes the words, "contribute to community". Park Brook embraces the mission and this specific part of the mission is carried out through this program by contributing to our global community. Another way that this part of the mission is carried out is through our Double Dutch Team and their contributions to the American Heart Association.
