Kindergarten Families - ASQ
SRO Lunch in Cafe
Woodlawn is lucky to have SRO (School Resource Officer) Affalter assigned to our building. He plans to provide safety lessons on stranger danger, internet safety, and more. SROs are law enforcement officers who are typically assigned to work within schools to ensure the safety and security of students and staff.
One of his goals is to eat lunch with students in a cafe. This provides an opportunity for SRO Affalter to create a positive interaction between law enforcement and students, which can contribute to building trust and positive relationships within the community. This can help break down barriers and stereotypes, fostering a sense of community and understanding between law enforcement and the students they serve.
If you see a patrol car in front of Woodlawn, it may be SRO Affalter stopping by to check-in. If there is an emergency or safety concern, I will notify you as soon as all safety/emergency concerns are addressed.
Woodlawn Personal Items Guidance
Purpose
This guidance outlines the expectations for bringing and using toys, purses, small bags for female sanitary items, and other personal items at Woodlawn Elementary. The primary goal of this guidance is to maintain a safe, inclusive, and focused learning environment while respecting students' personal belongings and addressing the needs of student hygiene.
Guidelines
Toys and Personal Items:
Toys and personal items are prohibited in the school building unless discussed with the teacher and approved for educational or therapeutic purposes.
This includes toys that are not violent, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate for a school setting.
Students are responsible for caring for and securing their toys and personal items. The school is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.
Purses & Bags:
Students can bring purses, bags, backpacks, and small bags to school to carry essential personal items such as lunch, school supplies, homework, and menstrual supplies.
Purses, bags, and menstrual supply bags must adhere to the school's dress code and should not contain any prohibited items (e.g., weapons, drugs, or inappropriate materials).
Personal items should be kept inside bags or cubbies to minimize distractions.
Respect and Responsibility:
Students are responsible for the care and security of their items. The school is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal items brought to school.
Prohibited Items:
The following items are prohibited at Woodlawn Elementary:
Toys and personal items that are not approved by the teacher.
Electronic devices, unless specifically required for educational purposes.
Weapons, drugs, or other illegal items.
Accountability:
Students who continually violate this guidance may be subject to disciplinary measures.
Enforcement:
Enforcement of this guidance is the shared responsibility of teachers, staff, and school administration.
FastBridge Testing
This week, we're starting our Fastbridge assessments. Students take screening tests up to three times a year to identify those needing extra help. These tests help teachers gauge progress towards year-end goals. We use FastBridge Learning® assessments for screening. Teachers promptly review scores and provide extra support to consistently low-scoring students. Parents will receive these screening reports, helping everyone track progress toward this year’s learning goals.
