September 2, 2024 September 2, 2024

Good afternoon, Murphy families,

I hope you're enjoying this beautiful Labor Day!

Our staff has been busily preparing classrooms and learning spaces and we cannot wait to welcome our amazing Murphy students this week. We anticipate a successful year filled with positive academic and social experiences. We will continue to emphasize the importance of "belonging" as we celebrate and fortify our Murphy Community throughout the year.

In preparation for the start of school, I wanted to share important reminders as well as a few pieces of new information. If you are new to the Murphy Community, this newsletter will arrive each Sunday with a review of significant activities, celebrations of success and reminders for upcoming events.

I'm very much looking forward to connecting with each family throughout the year.

Popsicle Party

Murphy School Parent Council invites Murphy Families to our welcome back Popsicle Party!

When: Tuesday, September 3

3:00-4:00 p.m.

Where: Back of Murphy School

*Please park in Murphy’s visitor lot or in any open spot that is not in the back - that area will be blocked off for the event. Unfortunately, there will be no bathroom access at the event*

What: A fun gathering for Murphy students and teachers to say hello and have a popsicle as the school year begins. All Murphy families welcome.

School Hours

The school day begins at 9:05 and ends at 3:15. It is very important that your child is here before 9:05 as structured learning time starts immediately after the second bell.

  • First Bell 8:50 A.M.
  • Late Bell 9:05 A.M.
  • End of Day 3:15 P.M.

As a reminder, children should arrive at school no earlier than 8:50 A.M.

Arrival / Dismissal

Please take a few moments to view our Arrival & Dismissal information. If friends or family transport your child to or from school, please share these procedures with them.

EARLY DISMISSALS

Please send in a note when dismissing your child. This helps to remind the office and the teacher of the time during the day this will occur. Please do not dismiss your child early to avoid the traffic. This is extremely disruptive to the classroom when teachers are assigning homework, passing out notices, or completing other necessary tasks. When a child is dismissed by someone other than a parent/guardian, we require identification and a signature for release.

REGULAR DISMISSAL

Please send a note to the school if your child is changing their regular routine of dismissal. This includes walkers, after-school care, and the bus. Please do not leave this responsibility to your child. If a note is not received, staff will assume that your child's typical routine for that day will be followed.

Breakfast & Lunch Program

We will once again offer the free universal meal program. Additionally, it remains important for families to complete the free and reduced meals form in order to expand opportunities.

For those interested, breakfast is available each morning from 8:50 - 9:05.

Parent Council

We have an amazing Parent Council at Murphy School. We encourage all of our families to become involved with this organization as we collaborate to create numerous fun activities throughout the year. We always love to see new faces at these meetings! The first meeting will be held 9/18 at 6:30 in the gym. We hope to see you there!

Open House

Please mark your calendar for Open House on 9/16 (6:00-8:00). We look forward to seeing everyone.

Supplies for SY 24-25

School Supplies for the 24-25 School Year: While there is not a mandated supply list and we will provide items needed by students for the school year, we would like to recognize that many families enjoy the ritual of back to school shopping and that some students enjoy picking out special items. In response to inquiries about needed items, please view our grade-level supply lists.

Families are encouraged to send their child with a backpack and lunch box, and are still welcome to provide incredibly helpful supplies and/or donate items (i.e. paper towels, cleaning wipes, tissues) if they choose to do so.

Transportation Information - September 2024

Please be sure to visit the WPS Transportation Page for information regarding our bus application for SY 2024/2025. (Please note that we are beyond the official application deadline, but please continue to fill out the application, if needed.)

Medication Policy

  • The Weymouth Public Schools Health Services Department encourages that medication is administered before and after school, if possible.

  • When medication is needed during school hours, there must be a physician’s order and a parental permission form with the medication in the prescribed container, or it cannot be given.

  • Medication must be delivered to the school in a pharmacy or manufacturer labeled container by the parent, guardian, or responsible adult. (Medications are not accepted in such things as plastic bags.) Children are not permitted to bring medication to school.

  • Please contact Ms. Boland, our school nurse, for the proper forms, which must accompany all medications.
