Making Music Every Day!
From Principal Lee
We have completed one month of school! It is wonderful to see the smiling faces, hear the classroom conversations, and talk with our incredible students! We are off to a great start! Students are settling into routines. We had over 150 students in grades 3-5 express interest in playing an instrument. We have over 100 students in grades 4-5 who want to take part in student leadership opportunities. Thank you for sending your children to us each day. We are looking forward to seeing the growth they will make this year. Remember you are always welcome to visit!

PreK Info!
Pre-k is adjusting to the rules and routines of school. We have been practicing how to be in the classroom, solve problems with friends by sharing trading and waiting our turn. We have been learning about the “Three B’s” of our school. Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible by watching videos with our school mascot Rocky the Rockin Eagle. We practice the three B’s everyday as we play, and learn about each other. Coming up in October we will be finishing up our theme of “Welcome to our School Family” and begin “Exploring Changes in My World.” Pre-K students will use observation skills to see changes in the seasons, and themselves.
Kindergarten Info!
We are doing it - and moving right along in Kindergarten!!
The first few weeks have been packed full of a lot of learning and a lot of fun. Each day everyone has been working hard at being RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE and SAFE while at school- and focusing on making super choices as well as LISTENING during LEARNING times- so we can get the most learning in each day. With such a caring, curious and eager group of learners in our classes this year, we’re super excited to spend our days together, learning and having fun!!

We have focused on building our classroom communities as well as learning our classroom procedures. Additionally, we have learned our reading routines, began working on our mental addition and subtraction skills, and examined writing structure and the parts of speech.
Grade 3 Info!
It has been a wonderful start to the school year in third grade! In our third grade classrooms, we have focused on building a strong classroom community by learning and practicing our morning meeting routines and working hard at being respectful, responsible and safe while at school. Third graders also began African drumming lessons during the first month of school. Students have been practicing being an independent reader, working and talking with others in math and writing a morning journal entry every day.
Grade 4 Info!
Fourth Graders are going to be starting opinion writing using multiple sources of information to support their opinions. In their writing, they will learn how to use graphic organizers, write topic and conclusion sentences, and use transition words to connect their ideas in order to make them clear to their readers.
Grade 5 Info!
Our fifth graders have had a wonderful start to the year! This month, we focused on building relationships in our classroom communities. We also began a new program with Brother Kadash called Rites of Passage! This program includes conversations surrounding self-care, discipline, and routines through African drumming. We are so excited for the coming months with our students!
ASD
We have been enjoying getting to know our students and working to build strong relationships with each other and as a classroom. We have been working hard on learning our routines and expectations in our classrooms and throughout the school. In September we focused on school rules and All About Us. We have had a great first month.
Arts Integration- Ms. Christopherson
We have finished up our unit on Ourselves and Our Strengths. Your student created a self portrait. We also read the book, The Dot. Students then were encouraged to get creative and make their own dot. As the book says, “Just make a mark and see where it takes you.” Our next unit will be social studies related. The focus will be on geography for most grades.

I look forward to a wonderful semester!
