Dear Springmill STEM Parents and Families,

We have been so lucky to have such great weather these last few weeks. The kids have really been enjoying time outside at recess and for class activities. We have a set of soccer goals and so many students in all grades are enjoying pickup games! I've been impressed with their skills, knowledge, and most of all their sportsmanship. We really do have amazing students!

Your child's education is a partnership and you are a very important part of that. We need your support! Students need to know that learning doesn't stop the moment they walk out of the building. Please make sure that you have your phone number and email updated in Final Forms and with your child's teacher. If the teacher has REMIND or DOJO to communicate, please get that set up ASAP.

Enjoy another great week!

Yours,

Principal Cara Will

Another Dress Code Reminder - Please Read! Another Dress Code Reminder - Please Read!

I would like to remind parents of an issue we are seeing with dress code concerns. Students are not permitted to wear leggings or bike shorts without a shirt that comes down to mid thigh over them. Shirts must reach the top of pants/shorts/skirts. And shirts must have sleeves - students are not permitted to wear cutoff t-shirts, tank tops, spaghetti straps, etc. If students where an item that does not meet the dress code, they will be sent to the nurse and asked to change using clothes available in our clothing closet. These are all laundered between any use. Parents will be notified when students are asked to change. Students that repeatedly wear clothes that do not meet dress code requirements will have consequences according to MCS Code of Conduct.

Work being sent home Work being sent home

Our teachers do not regularly send "homework" home with students, because we encourage families to spend time together. However, we do believe that a big part of family time for young students should be spent reading together. This time is very important to their success as students.

Another thing that is very helpful to your child's education is to encourage their math skills by talking through math problems you do in your daily life (cooking, shopping, etc). Teachers may send home math fact practice sheets.

There are times, though, when students bring home work that they do not get done in school. These are instances when students are not focusing on the work they are supposed to be doing or choosing not to do the work. When work does come home, please make every effort to work with your child and their teacher to get it completed and returned.

If your child's teacher is sending work home and you are not clear about why, please make sure you reach out to his/her teacher. Communication with the teacher is the only way to make the partnership work!
