MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Dutchmen Families,

We are so excited to begin another school year together! At Annville Elementary, we believe that every child deserves champions—people who cheer them on, believe in them, and help them reach their fullest potential. Together, as families, staff, and community, we are stronger when we work side by side to support student success.

This year, we look forward to continuing to grow as a community that lifts one another up. By celebrating achievements, encouraging perseverance, and supporting every learner, we can create a school where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to do their best!

Thank you for being such an important part of our school family. Here’s to a year of learning, growing, and championing our kids—together!

Kind regards,

Becky Hoover

Dr. Kelly McGurgan - Literacy Coach

Hello! My name is Kelly McGurgan. I am excited to join the Annville-Cleona School District as the Literacy Coach. I was born, raised, and spent most of my life in and around the Pittsburgh area. I earned my undergraduate degree at Grove City College and my master's degree at Lock Haven University. I completed my doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction at Penn State University. I bring over 20 years of experience in Pennsylvania public schools and three years as a university professor, concentrating on early childhood education and literacy, to this position.

Outside of school, I love to crochet and travel. My husky, Kip, keeps life interesting. I look forward to the coming school year and all the new adventures it brings!

PATHWAYS FOR EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION PATHWAYS FOR EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

Directing questions and/or concerns to the appropriate person(s) encourages greater collaboration and streamlines the process of answering questions, alleviating concerns, and ensuring that we are all “on the same page”. Please use the document, linked here, to help identify your first contact (and additional points of contact if necessary).

ENTRY AND DISMISSAL INFORMATION ENTRY AND DISMISSAL INFORMATION

Doors to the school will open at 8:15 each morning. Please do not drop off or have students arrive prior to this time. Any student arriving after 8:50 is considered tardy, and the student will need to be dropped off at the school office. Changes to transportation will not be accepted after 2:45 p.m. In order to change your child’s transportation, the office must receive a note signed by the parent/guardian. If being picked up, the note should indicate the individual picking up the student.

Walkers: Students who walk to and from school will use the doors on the north playground off of Marshall Street. Doors open at 8:15 a.m., and a staff member will be available to supervise students as they enter each day. Dismissal of walkers will occur at 3:20 p.m. at the same location. Students will be asked to promptly walk to their homes, as supervision isn’t available for students to remain on school grounds. Please discuss walking routes (using intersections and crosswalks), as well as safe walking habits, with your child to ensure their safety.

Bus Riders: Bused students enter the building at the main office and are dropped off in the bus loop. Students will be dismissed to their bus beginning at 3:20 as buses arrive.

Car Riders: During arrival, all students being dropped off by parents/guardians should use the car rider entrance off of Marshall Street. Please see the diagram below for the location. For student safety, car rider drop off is not permitted in the bus loop between 8:15-8:50 a.m.

During dismissal, 3rd and 4th-grade car riders and their sibling(s) will dismiss from the north playground doors off of Marshall Street. All students will receive a card with their last name on the first day of school. The card should be placed on the passenger side dash so that staff are able to expedite the process while also ensuring safety. Parents should line up along Marshall Street and then exit onto Route 934 after receiving their child. Please do not “double park” due to oncoming traffic.

5th and 6th-grade car riders will be dismissed from the south playground door directly to their parent/guardian’s car on High Street.

Crossing Guards: Crossing guards are available for walkers to cross Route 934, Marshall Street, and the Marshall Street/South Lancaster Street intersection.
