PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
The first few days have been full of energy as students settle into new routines and reconnect with friends. We are focused on building a positive school community full of engagement. Encourage your child to get involved with a sport, club or activity helping them to find a sense of belonging at IHS. We look forward to a fantastic year!
OPEN HOUSE
IHS Open House is September 24, from 5-7pm. All teachers are stationed on the first floor and available to answer questions related to curriculum planned for the year. We offer a flexible schedule so that you can plan your visits as you wish.
Our school counselors will be in the auditorium from 5-6pm and encourage you to join the college planning presentation.
Our PTSA fundraisers support student events throughout the year. Please consider purchasing from one of the food trucks!
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Daily attendance and attendance to every class is important for students to remain connected and to learn. High school students are gaining more independence but they still need guidance from their guardians. Please talk about the importance of showing up to school and attending classes every day and the connection that timely attendance has when they have a job or career. We understand that students may be sick and will need to stay home to rest. With any absence, please be sure to contact our Attendance Office to indicate the reason for the absence. This helps us partner with you to support your child when they return. Below is a link that shares what you can do to help your child prioritize attendance to school.
YEARBOOK ORDER
Save money and order your yearbook in September! Yearbooks are only $65 through September 30th and then prices go up. Sales are primarily online and only for a short time. Don't miss out on the memories!
STUDENT PARKING ON CAMPUS
Due to limited parking availability only Gold Key seniors may park on campus. All other students must make alternate parking arrangements.
Students who do not follow this expectation may lose Gold and Blue Key privileges, including access to the separate lunch space, leaving the building during lunch, campus parking, and attendance at Prom or Ball.
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and organized parking environment and ensuring that our students have full access to our building privileges.
SENIOR CLASS PHOTOS AND PORTRAITS
School pictures are September 16th and 17th.
SENIOR CLASS PHOTO and Picture make up day is October 23rd at IHS.
The Senior Class Photo is scheduled for October 23rd at 8am, in the gym. The morning BOCES bus will leave immediately following the photo.
Senior portraits are due online by November 9th. If you wish to use your picture day photo, no action is needed.
Senior quotes are due by November 9th; students should watch for a link sent to their class Schoology page.
INTERNET ENABLED DEVICES
Thank you for supporting the message and encouraging students to store their internet enabled personal devices during the school day. We are noting more face to face interaction among students, peer dialogue in classes and increased engagement. Your support has been tremendous and our students are rising to the expectation!
We have begun ordering a few board games for students to play while in the cafeteria or commons area. If you have any lightly used board games that you no longer play please consider dropping them off in our main office.
“Internet-enabled devices” means any personal smartphone, smartwatch, tablet or other bluetooth device capable of connecting to the Internet. Under the new policy, all students must store personal internet-enabled devices in their lockers during the school day (7:55am-2:55pm). Ideally, the device would be in airplane mode or off. We understand that this is a change and know it may be a challenge for some students.
You can access this policy on our website via this link.
DUAL CREDIT and AP INFORMATION
If your child is enrolled in a Dual Credit class you will want to save these dates as reminders. Teachers will help students complete the registration process and send a reminder email as the payment deadline approaches.
HOMECOMING INFORMATION
HOMECOMING DANCE
We are bringing back a HOCO on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Ticket sales are dependent on the previous year's quarter 4 grades; a student must be passing all or all but 1 class and have zero suspensions. Attendance during the first 2 weeks of school will also be used for ticket eligibility. Sales are limited and will be conducted during all 3 lunch periods beginning on Wednesday, September 16th.
ARRIVAL and DISMISSAL
When you drop your child off, please only do so near the front loop between IHS and Dake; there will be signs clearly indicating the zone. We want to make arrival and dismissal easier for you and to ensure that your child is greeted with a warm welcome.
IHS DROP OFF/PICK UP
Please pull ahead to this area of the building. Pulling to this area will help reduce congestion at the Cooper Road light and will allow students increased safety when gathering supplies from the car.
PULL AHEAD ZONE
Please do not drop students at this location. Stopped vehicles block other parents from being able to quickly drop off their children. This also causes significant traffic back up at the light on Cooper and often back to Titus. Please pull forward to the drop off location indicated
IHS DROP OFF/PICK UP BACK LOOP
Students should be dropped off and picked up along the sidewalk area indicated. Dropping/picking up students at the sidewalk increases their safety and reduces the chance that they walk between buses. Leaving room for our buses in the loop helps to increase on time arrival for all students.
HEALTH OFFICE UPDATES
NYS requires that all 9th and 11th grade students have a current physical on file in the Health Office. Physicals are considered current for one year after the exam date.
Also, we are not far from winter sports! If your student plans on playing this winter season, please make sure they have a physical dated after November 1, 2026. NYS requires that a physical be considered current during the month of the first practice in order to participate.
FOOD SERVICE LETTER AND ELIGIBILITY
We are pleased to inform you that the West Irondequoit Central School District will continue to operate under the Community Eligibility Provision for the 2026-2027 school year through New York State while participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. Please read the letter and flier for more information.

SAFE SCHOOL HELPLINE

If your child wishes to remain anonymous but would like to report a concern, encourage them to complete the Safe School Helpline form using the link below or through the app. Reporting with as many factual details as possible will help our administrators follow up with individuals in a timely manner. Thank you for continuing to support a positive school climate.
THANK YOU
Be well,
Alecia
