Saint of the Month
Living Like the Saints
This September, we're focusing on the Beatitude, "Blessed are the poor in spirit," and learning how to truly live it. This involves both changing our mindset and taking specific actions. From the perspective of Saint John of the Cross, this Beatitude is about more than just a task list; it's a deep, ongoing journey of surrendering your will and heart to God.
A practical way to begin this journey is by actively welcoming moments to receive redirection gracefully or to practice humility. When we're corrected, or even criticized, we can choose to see it as a chance to grow in humility rather than as an attack. This is a powerful step toward dismantling egos and finding our identity and value not in the world's praise, but in God alone.
The Appeals of Our Lady Coming to St. Luke the Evangelist!
St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ankeny will host The Appeals of Our Lady, a Vatican-approved international exhibit, from September 8–21, 2025, at 1102 NW Weigel Dr.
This free exhibit is open daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, excluding regular Mass times. Please enter through the northside doors and check in with the parish office during school hours. Be mindful of increased traffic in the parking lot during school drop-off (7:45–8:15 am) and pick-up (3:00–3:30 pm), Monday through Friday.
On loan from Spirit Catholic Radio, The Appeals of Our Lady is a traveling exhibit of 20 stunning panels highlighting Marian apparitions from around the world. This powerful exhibit was designed by Blessed Carlo Acutis and offers a meaningful way to encounter the Blessed Mother’s messages throughout history.
