A Message From Mrs. Carmody
Dear Fremont Families,
The sunshine this week has been a welcome gift, and you can feel the positive energy radiating through our hallways and classrooms. We are ready to carry that spirit into tonight’s Multicultural Fair and BINGO Night starting at 6:00 p.m. This event is a highlight of the year for me because it is a unique opportunity to honor the rich heritage of our families. Add BINGO and it will be a night to remember. I truly hope to see a great turnout as we celebrate what makes our school community so special.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for making our school such a special place!
Sincerely,
Beth Carmody
Principal
The Illinois Principals Association (IPA) celebrated the remarkable achievements of students at its Student Recognition Breakfast on April 21. This event honors students who demonstrate outstanding character, leadership, and a commitment to their school and community. While the event featured students from several schools, Fremont School District 79 had notable representatives, including Harry S. and Kendall J., two 2nd graders from Fremont Elementary School who were recognized for their dedication and positive influence within the Fremont family.
Congratulations to Harry and Kendall!

Starting Our New Dismissal Procedure—4/27/26
Dear Parent Pickup Parents and Guardians,
We are ready to officially kick off our Raptor DismissalSafe pilot on Monday, April 27! To ensure a smooth transition, please remember to display your new unique Security ID code in your car window on your placard as you pull into the pickup line and keep your placard displayed until your child is in your car.
For those families who have recently been on the parent pick-up list, you have been issued a sticker with an ID code with a letter about the Raptor Safe App. If you did not receive the letter and code in the parent pick-up line in the last 3 days, the letter and code will be sent home in your child's backpack this afternoon. If you requested a new placard, those will be sent home this afternoon as well. Please email cjohnson@fsd79.org if you need your child's ID code and/or a new placard with your child's last name on it.
A few quick tips for our first day:
Be Patient: As with any new technology, the first few days may take a little longer than usual as our staff and families adjust. We appreciate your patience and cooperation!
Have your ID code ready: Please ensure your ID code is clearly visible to staff as you approach the building. If you don't have your ID code, please give the dismissal staff your child's last name.
Raptor Safe App: You do not need the app for dismissal. The app is optional. We will be sending all parents/guardians the invite code to set up the app, should you choose to download it.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students safe and our dismissal process efficient!
Submit Your Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week Shoutouts!
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is right around the corner (May 4-8). Back by popular demand, we’re providing you with a chance to send a kind note to a Fremont teacher or staff member. Simply complete this form to express your gratitude. The form will be open through Monday, May 4, and submissions will be shared with teachers and staff later that week.
Tick Notification
There has been a rise in tick exposures among children and staff in our building. Ticks are small parasites with 8 legs. They come in different colors and sizes. They can be light-colored, reddish-brown, or dark brown. Ticks mainly live in grassy and wooded areas and are more common in the warmer months. They attach themselves to people and pets and then feed off blood. Ticks can pass on disease like Lyme disease, Rocky Mountains potted fever and others. It is important to take steps to avoid tick bites.
What you can do to prevent ticks:
*Before you go outdoors
- Treat clothing, gear and yourself with and EPA-approved insect repellent
- Avoid wooded areas
- Check the body, hair and clothing for ticks
- Examine pets
- Shower after being outdoors
- Keep bushes trimmed and grass mowed in the yard
What the school is doing to prevent ticks:
- Spraying of playground and surrounding area scheduled for early May.
- Frequent lawn mowing to keep grass low.
- Teachers and supervisors are having students conduct tick checks upon coming indoors from recess, PE or other outdoor activities.
What to do after a tick bite:
- Simply remove the tick as soon as possible
o Use clean, fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin surface as possible.
o Pull upward with steady, even pressure. Don’t twist or jerk the tick.
o After removing the tick, thoroughly clean the site with soap and water, rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer.
o Get rid of the tick by placing it in a sealed bag or container, wrap it in tape, or flush it down the toilet. (Testing of ticks is not recommended)
If you develop a rash, body aches, chills or fever within weeks after removing a tick, contact your
doctor.
