A Message From The Principal A Message From The Principal

Good Afternoon NYE Families!

This week marks the end of the first quarter of the school year! It has been so exciting to see all of the learning and growth our students have made so far this year. We are so proud of the hard work, perseverance, and progress our students have demonstrated over the past several weeks. Each day brings new opportunities to learn, build relationships, and grow, and it has been wonderful to see our students rise to new challenges!

We have several exciting events coming up, Parent Teacher Conferences, and also a few days off in the next few weeks. Please be sure to review the Mark Your Calendar section below and plan accordingly so your family is prepared for all the fun and upcoming schedule changes.

Wishing you all a wonderful rest of the week!

Author Visit - Chris Eliopoulos Author Visit - Chris Eliopoulos

This past Friday, Nancy Young was excited to welcome a very special guest to our building, cartoonist Chris Eliopoulos! Chris met with students in grades 1st through 5th to share more about his career, discuss his experiences as an illustrator, and walk students through the process of bringing characters and stories to life through drawing. Students had the opportunity to follow along with several examples from his books and create their own drawings alongside him.

Chris is the illustrator behind the popular Ordinary People Change the World book series, which celebrates the lives and accomplishments of inspiring historical figures. The series was also adapted into a television show on PBS KIDS and is currently celebrating an exciting milestone with the release of its 40th book!

We are grateful to Chris for taking the time to share his talents, experiences, and creativity with our Dolphins. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn from a professional artist, explore their own creativity, and see firsthand how drawing and storytelling can bring ideas to life!

Halloween Parade and Costumes Halloween Parade and Costumes

This year, students are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to school and participate in the Nancy Young Halloween Parade on Friday, October 30th at 9:30 a.m.

To ensure students are ready for the parade, any student who wishes to participate should come to school dressed in their Halloween costume. Students are welcome to wear school-appropriate costumes. Notably, please avoid costumes that make it difficult for a student to safely navigate on their own, weapon-like accessories, or anything that indicates violence. Students will have to remove or put away any costume or item that is deemed inappropriate or unsafe.

After the parade, students will remove their costumes and store them in their backpacks. Please make sure your child can independently manage bathroom needs while in costume and can get out of their costume with limited adult support. Also, please ensure your child wears appropriate clothing under their costume to wear the remainder of the day.

Weather permitting, part of the parade will take place outside so family members can watch. A copy of the parade route is included below. Parents are welcome to line the walkway to view all of the wonderful costumes. In the event of inclement weather, the outdoor portion of the parade for families will be canceled.
