Dear MHS Parents and Students,

Rebecca McPherson from Pellissippi State came to MHS to help students register on Tuesday, 10/20, but many kiddos were absent. If your student has not registered for his/her PSTCC DE block, that needs to happen NOW before classes fill.
Current Maryville College DE students will be able to register for spring semester classes starting Friday, October 23rd. MC no longer publishes a class schedule to send, but students can log into their Highlander Hub accounts and see available classes for the spring semester.
MHS will host a Veterans Day Assembly on Thursday, November 5th. Please email Amanda.Russell@maryville-schools.org if you are (or know) a veteran who wants to attend.
A Delicious Partnership
Our Spanish 4 students partnered with Culinary 1 students last week to make traditional Mexican tamales. On the first day, students learned about the history and cultural significance of tamales. On the second day, they put their knowledge into practice in the kitchen, working together in teams. On the final day they learned how to properly plate and garnish their tamales.
Spanish 4 students were challenged to communicate only in Spanish while working in the kitchen. All of the students followed a Spanish-language recipe as they prepared the masa, made the meat and sauce, assembled the tamales, and prepared them for steaming.
Learning at its best!

Check out the resources below for tools you can use the next time you face a tough choice.

Early graduating seniors (December 2026) who plan to enter the workforce will have the opportunity to connect with local employment agencies during a special Employment Agency Panel. Representatives will share information about current job openings, employment services, and resources available to support students as they begin their careers. Following the panel, students will meet one-on-one with agency representatives to ask questions, learn about opportunities, and make valuable workforce connections.
January Job Sessions for Seniors – Coming soon: Seeking Volunteers
Do you have a passion for helping young people succeed? MHS is seeking a dedicated group of volunteers to support our annual January Job Sessions for seniors. Over the course of three weeks in January 2027, community members will help students strengthen their job-seeking, interviewing, and workplace readiness skills as they prepare for life after graduation. This is a meaningful opportunity for employers, business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals to share career insights, discuss opportunities within their organizations, tell their career stories, and help students understand what employers value in today's workforce. Whether you can volunteer once or multiple times, your experience and encouragement can make a lasting impact. To learn more or get involved, contact Rosanna Giles at Rosanna.giles@maryville-schools.org.
CHECK OUT PROCEDURES
Check-outs should be held to a minimum and are limited to the following:
Emergency - Decision to be made by the principal or assistant principals.
Prior arrangement - If a written request is received by officials in the student services office prior to the beginning of the school day, the student will be dismissed at the requested time. The checkout note must include the student’s full name, date, time of dismissal, phone number where parent/guardian can be reached for verification, and signature of the parent/guardian.
- The parent/guardian comes to the main entrance office to sign the student out.
Students who become sick during the school day must report to the assistant principal’s office/school nurse before they call home. The assistant principal’s office will assist the student and permit the student to call home. The student will remain in the assistant principal’s office or with the school nurse until he/she receives permission to go home or until he/she is picked up by a parent/guardian.
Students are allowed to check out during third block only for medical or legal purposes, and proper documentation must be provided. Students are not allowed to check out to retrieve items needed for school. Leaving school without permission will result in disciplinary action.
Students checking out of school on an altered schedule day will receive an unexcused absence unless the school is provided the appropriate legal or medical documentation.
