Something to Yelle About
The Weekly Newsletter for the Henri A. Yelle Elementary
YET ANOTHER AWESOME WEEK IN #HAYNation!
Yelle Newsletter for September 26th!
Hello from the Yelle.
Another incredible week was had in #HAYNation! We are actually at the end of the month. It is unreal to think that we will be turning the calendar page to October already next week. Everyone is doing such a sensational job each and every day; I could not be more proud.
In the big picture above, each week, I use it as a way to highlight and show what we were able to accomplish during the week.
We have a group picture of some young men who had their #GoodNewsCallOfTheDay celebration with Dr. O'Neill, our Superintendent of Schools, who spent the day with us at the Yelle on Monday. Then there is the group shot next to them, where 4th Graders were showing off their wands that they made to go with their class read of Harry Potter. On the top row, there is a student showing her thinking on her whiteboard as her teacher walks around checking for understanding. This is one of my favorite things that we do. Then there is a picture of some 5th Grade Band students "unboxing" their instruments as 5th Grade Band started this week with Mr. Dufresne. And then a double Thumbs-Up for Learning; love it! The bottom row has students working diligently, two students engaged in a "Think-Pair-Share" activity, and finally a group of students displaying our #PositiveSignThursday message for this first week of the season exclaiming how they Fall for Learning, and these kids are all doing a sensational job at that!
These and the other pictures below that I have snapped throughout the week in and around the classrooms really do relay a story of the incredible relational accomplishments our students and teachers achieved this week. Please check them out below and all over our Instagram feed to help to tell the tremendous story we are writing this year.

Norton Combined Elementary Schools Council -- Members Needed
📢 Invitation to Join the Norton Public Schools Combined Elementary School Council 📢
Are you interested in getting involved with your child’s education in another way besides PTA or fundraising?
Would you like to be more engaged in the academic aspects and decision-making that shape your child’s school experience at the elementary level?
If so, we encourage you to consider joining the Norton Public Schools Combined Elementary School Council (also called a School Improvement Council).
What is a School Council?
By Massachusetts law, every public school is required to have a School Council made up of parents, teachers, the principal, and community members. The law outlines four major areas of responsibility:
-
Adopting educational goals for the school that align with district policies and state performance standards.
-
Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school.
-
Reviewing the annual school building budget.
-
Formulating and monitoring the School Improvement Plan.
What does the Council do?
The Norton Elementary School Council will focus on school improvement rather than fundraising. Together, we will:
-
Develop the Combined Elementary School Improvement Plan aligned with the new District Improvement Plan.
-
Review student learning data, including MCAS results, and discuss strategies to support growth.
-
Explore ways to strengthen teaching and learning across the three elementary schools (J.C. Solomonese, L.G. Nourse, and H.A. Yelle).
-
Discuss curriculum ideas, parent involvement opportunities, and ways to improve school climate and student success.
Meeting Details
-
First Meeting: Tuesday, October 21, at 6:00 PM (held virtually)
-
Ongoing Schedule: Every other month, with additional meetings as needed
-
Who Can Join: Parents, teachers, and at least one community member — all voices are welcome!
Whether you’re ready to commit as a representative or would simply like to attend and learn more, we’d love to have you.
👉 To express interest or join the first meeting, please email mgeoghegan@norton.k12.ma.us.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to play a direct role in shaping the future of our Norton elementary schools.
