A Message From Ms. Reeves

Hard to believe it is already November. This school year has been so special. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I just want to say I am so grateful for the chance to work with the amazing students and staff at Hanceville Elementary. Red Ribbon Week Poster Contest Winner Isabella with sister

We had some awesome Red Ribbon Week posters. The students worked really hard and were so creative. I could not judge to choose the winner, so we did a spinner wheel and Isabella was our winner. I appreciate everyone who participated. You guys did a great job! Your posters really encouraged others to make healthy choices.

Character Education for the Month: Growth Mindset

For the month of November, HES students will be learning about growth mindset. Students will learn the difference between fixed mindset and growth mindset. With growth mindset, students believe that success can be achieved through hard work and practice while students with fixed mindset believe that people are born talented/ intelligent. Having a growth mindset encourages students to view mistakes as opportunities for growth. After we introduce growth mindset, we will explore traits that help encourage growth mindset including perseverance, diligence, and courage. Encourage growth mindset in your kids. Challenge your students to keep trying and never give up even if something is challenging. Pay attention to your students self talk. If you notice, you child engaging in negative self talk such as "I can't!" or "I am NEVER going to be able to..." Gently, help them change their perspective. One easy way to encourage growth mindset is with the simple concept of the "Power of Yet" Just adding the word "yet" to self talk can shift from fixed mindset to growth mindset.
