Happy New Year to all of our students and their families on behalf of the AMJHS staff. Thanks to community support, we raised almost $2000 on our Christmas Tree raffle, as well as over $7000 on our Buffalo Books fundraiser. We look forward to a positive year and appreciate all of your support in working with us to support our students!

We are in the process of creating goals for AMJHS and are looking for parent representatives to help us with this venture. We'll be looking at school test score data and school climate survey data and creating goals for our school along with school staff and student representatives. Each year we will report on the progress of the school and modify the goals, as needed. We are willing to work around your busy schedule, so if you are interested please call the main office or email Dr. Bailey at kbailey@lockportschools.net.

We are having our third lockdown drill on Monday, January 13th. Districts are required to conduct 13 drills a year: 8 fire drills, 4 lockdown drills and 1 early dismissal drill. The state requires that "all drills must be in a trauma-informed, developmentally, and age-appropriate manner and shall not include props, actors, simulations, or other tactics intended to mimic a school shooting, incident of violence, or other emergency." Please feel free to contact the main office if you have any questions.

8th Grade Trip to Washington, DC 8th Grade Trip to Washington, DC

We are continuing to find fundraising opportunities so our 8th grade students can go to Washington, DC this June. On Monday, January 6th, we will be starting two fundraisers. For the first fundraiser we will be selling chocolate bars from World's Finest Chocolates. There are 30 chocolate bars in each box and they cost $2 each. For each box sold, students will earn $25 off of the cost of their trip.

Our second fundraiser will be a Mary Kay Valentine's Day fundraiser. Students will be able to collect paper or online orders for beauty and health products. 50% of the proceeds will go toward the student's DC Trip fees.

We will have additional opportunities to volunteer and earn additional money off of the total trip cost. Information about those opportunities will be sent out through the Washington, DC Google Classroom.

By January 24th payments of $169 will have to be submitted to the travel company to formally reserve each student's spot. By next Tuesday, we will be sending home a form which updates all of the fundraising your student has completed. Students will then have an additional two weeks to fundraise or earn the difference, or bring in the remaining amount owed. We will have to submit an additional $164 per student by March 28th, but we'll have a number of other fundraising opportunities in February and March.
