This year, we are excited to introduce Amplify Desmos Math, a curriculum aligned with the California Mathematics Framework that focuses on helping students truly understand math—not just memorize steps. In class, students will be asked to explain their thinking, explore multiple strategies, and engage in meaningful problem-solving.

So, what does this mean for you at home?
Math might look a little different than what you experienced in school—and that’s okay! Instead of focusing on getting the answer quickly, we encourage students to think deeply and talk about how they got there.

Here are a few simple ways you can support your child:

  • Ask questions like: “How did you figure that out?” or “Can you show me another way?”
  • Encourage effort and persistence, even when the work feels challenging
  • Remind your child that mistakes are part of learning and growth
  • Stay connected through teacher communication and monthly updates about what your child is learning

Together, we can build strong mathematical thinkers who are confident, curious, and capable problem solvers.

The California Mathematics Framework is a guide developed by the state to help schools provide high-quality math instruction for all students. It builds on the California Common Core State Standards and reflects current research on how students learn mathematics most effectively.

The California Mathematics Framework emphasizes helping students develop deep understanding, problem-solving skills, and confidence in math. Rather than focusing only on memorizing procedures, students engage in meaningful tasks, explain their thinking, explore multiple strategies, and collaborate with classmates to make sense of mathematics.

It also continues to emphasize the Standards for Mathematical Practice—eight important habits of mind that help students think and work like mathematicians. These practices include making sense of problems, reasoning and explaining their thinking, using models and tools strategically, and looking for patterns and connections in mathematics.

The goal of the California Mathematics Framework is to ensure that all students have access to rigorous, engaging math learning that prepares them for college, careers, and real-world problem solving.

Welcome to the Amplify Desmos Math California Grade 6–12 Caregiver Hub. We’ve designed this space to help you support your student at every stage of their math journey.

In class, your student engages with digital lessons using devices as well as write-in Student Edition books. They also may be assigned digital or print practice outside of class. In the Caregiver Hub, you’ll find some suggestions, videos, and resources for how you can support their learning at home.
