A Message From Your Principal
Dear Eames Way Families,
It has been an incredible week of learning and growth here at EWS. As we wrap up this final stretch before the break, I want to extend a huge thank you to our students, staff, and families for making this week so vibrant and productive. Watching our students in action is always the highlight of my day; from hands-on collaborative projects to creative writing and art, our students are finding joy in different ways to express themselves.
As a reminder, there will be no school next week, Monday, April 20th through Friday, April 24th, for April Vacation. When we return, we have a busy schedule ahead, including MCAS testing for our 5th graders and our "We Are Marshfield Day" celebration on May 1st. Please be sure to check the calendar for upcoming field trips and special events as we head into a very active spring season.
Finally, a few quick wellness notes from the health office: as the weather warms up, please remember to send your children with refillable water bottles (labeled with their names!) and apply sunscreen at home. We also ask that you continue to check for ticks after outdoor play. If you are doing any spring cleaning over the break, Nurse White is gratefully accepting donations of lightly used leggings or sweatpants (sizes 6–14).
Whether you are traveling or enjoying a relaxing "staycation," I wish you all a fun, safe, and rejuvenating April Break. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, April 27th!
Warmly,
Ms. Bishop
Principal
EWS - El Salvador Student Project Update
By Owen Moeller and Brayden Meyers (Grade 3)
We would kindly ask for more donations for El Salvador because it's a third world country. We will accept any toys, slightly used clothes, shoes, school supplies, tissues, books, notebooks, and pencils.
There is a Donation Box by the main hallway by the Main Lobby of EWS. You can donate shoes, and other stuff and they like soccer so please donate soccer cleats and soccer balls. We will also accept Pokemon cards, baseball cards, football cards and other types of trading cards and games. Please no video games because people in parts of El Salvador might not have internet. More stuff you can donate are first aid supplies and sports equipment. School supplies are also a great idea but again, No video games, please. Other things you can donate are clothing, non-perishable food like canned food, dry food , and medical supplies.
We already got a soccer ball, shoes, books, tissues, crocs, sports equipment, math supplies, a baseball bat, pens, pink shoes, and a book called LEFT OUT, and erasers donated. You can also donate Spanish books because people in El Salvador speak Spanish and only some speak English. More donation ideas include whisper phones, paper, pencil cases, rulers, pattern blocks, dictionaries, and some water bottles. Don't send water bottles that can be broken easily. Also don't send bagged food and don't send wet food and fruit because it sometimes can rot on the way to El Salvador.
More ideas of stuff to donate are glue sticks, magnets, and math supplies including pencils, markers, scissors and building blocks. You can also donate blankets, pillows, pillow cases and blow up beds. Non-perishable goods like canned vegetables and peanut butter could be good, too. Don't put anything people can be allergic to.
Essential donations for El Salvador include clothing and shoes for all ages, particularly work clothes for job seekers. Other critical needs are school supplies (pencils, notebooks), hygiene items (soap, sanitary pads), and non-expired basic medical supplies like stethoscopes and masks. High-need items for donation to El Salvador include warm-weather clothing for all ages, shoes, and products like toothpaste and soap. Do not bring winter clothing, very large items, or used underwear. You can also donate NEW deodorant, toothbrushes, and toothpaste.
Their favorite sport is soccer so you can donate goalie gloves and soccer balls. This event is only happening from now until the end of May. Thank you for participating in this event and for helping us help people.

Nurse Update
Community Needs Assessment Survey:
A graduate class at the Boston University School of Public Health is conducting a community needs assessment in collaboration with MPSD to gather information on the health priorities of students in the district. The information we gather in this survey will help the school community to better understand the needs and concerns around student health and set priorities for health improvement. It is important to have the perspective of community members, (including parents, caregivers, teachers and other school staff) in understanding what health issues the community views are priorities. The survey should take about 5-10 minutes to complete - and the data collected will be strictly confidential. The BU students will collect this data and then present a preliminary report on their findings in May. We value your input in this data collection survey. Please note survey link is as follows: Survey Link Click Here
Attention Grade 5 Parents:
Postural screening will be taking place during the month of May. The Department of Public Health guidelines mandate that students in Grades 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are screened annually for scoliosis. If your child is already followed for scoliosis, please let the nurse know. More detailed information will be sent out to Grade 5 parents. If you would like your child to opt out of this screening, please send in a note or email to Nurse White at awhite@mpsd.org.
Guidelines for Return to School After Illness:
Fever over 100 degrees (child must be fever-free for 24 hours, without the use of Tylenol or Motrin, to return to school).
Vomiting and/or diarrhea (if your child has had any vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours, they should not return to school).
Diagnosis of communicable disease, such as strep throat or conjunctivitis (if diagnosed with a communicable disease and prescribed antibiotics, your child must not return to school until they have been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours. A doctor's note should be brought to school via backpack, emailed to Nurse White at awhite@mpsd.org, or faxed to 339-244-2475.
Reminders as Weather Changes:
Hydration: Please be sure your child brings a water bottle to school each day-preferably one that is easily refillable at our refill stations.
Snacks: Please remember to send in a healthy snack for your child everyday.
Clothing: Have children dress in layers-the building can become quite warm, and children can overheat very easily.
Sun safety: Sunscreen must be applied at home before coming to school.
Tick safety: There has been an increase in the prevalence of ticks. Parents should frequently check their children for ticks, especially around the ankles, legs, and head region after coming inside from any outdoor activities.
Spring Cleaning:
As you spring clean, don’t forget that any donations of lightly used clothing would be greatly appreciated by the school nurse. Any shirts, sweatshirts, and pants(preferably leggings or sweatpants) in sizes 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 would be a welcome addition to the nurses’ collection.
Lunch Menu & Nutrition Update
Breakfast and lunch are free options to all students for the 2025-2026 school year. Please note, breakfast is available upon arrival from 8:35-8:50 am, however, students can also get breakfast during the morning once the school day starts if they skipped breakfast or forgot their snack. For more information, please visit MPSD School Nutrition.
My School Bucks is an online account for families to easily manage and pay for school meals, a la carte items (such as ice cream), etc. These accounts stay with students throughout grades K-12 and funds can be replenished when balances get low. Here's the information from the MPSD Nutrition webpage on how to set up your account - My School Bucks.

Federal Food Benefit Program - SUN Bucks
The online application SUN Bucks (formerly Summer EBT) is now open. This federal food benefit program provides a $120 lump-sum summer benefit per school-aged child for income-eligible families. SUN Bucks income eligibility standards are the same as the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) - all enrolled students identified as meeting the income eligibility standards for free or reduced-price lunch during school year 2025-26, either through an NSLP household application or direct certification, are automatically eligible for SUN Bucks. Students identified as homeless, migrant, runaway, or participating in Head Start are also automatically eligible. The program is administered by the state Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) in partnership with DESE with assistance from schools. Find details and learn how to apply on the SUN Bucks website. Click here for SUN bucks information and application.
Volunteering at EWS
CORI applications need to be redone every few years and we are currently in a three-year cycle covering 2023-2026. All volunteers need to complete a CORI, even if you were approved prior to 2023. Please visit the Front Office to complete a CORI application and provide a copy of your license - it will only take a minutes. Applications are then reviewed by MPSD Central Office, which can take up to a week to process. If you have any questions, please contact Val Quigley (781-834-5090 or vquigley@mpsd.org).
However, to clarify, if you have an approved CORI from last year, it is still valid for this school year!
