A Message from the Principal A Message from the Principal

As you’ll see in this week’s newsletter, there is an incredible amount happening at Souhegan—and it all reflects who we are as a school community. The stories and updates below highlight students and staff deeply engaged in meaningful learning, collaboration, and connection.

Wednesday was a perfect example of our mission in action. Freshmen worked together in team-based learning and community-building activities, sophomores contributed to the greater good through Community Service Day, juniors took on the challenge of the PSATs, and seniors enjoyed their annual outing, a celebration of relationships and shared experience. Each of these experiences represents the heart of Souhegan: curiosity, stewardship, and growth within a caring community.

Thank you for all the ways you continue to support and celebrate our students’ learning, both in and beyond the classroom!

Warmly,

Dana

Grades Closing for MS1

Grades for mid-semester 1 will close on November 5, with progress reports available on PowerSchool by 3:00 PM on November 13. This interim period allows teachers to finalize grades, and we encourage students and families to review assignment scores and communicate with teachers regarding any questions or concerns. Course scores are rolling, and the progress report reflects learning progress up to that date, while final scores will be communicated on transcripts. Additionally, at the end of each reporting period (November, January, April), students with off-campus privileges and their parents will be notified of any changes to their status based on academic performance and adherence to the student handbook.

Your Community. Your Voice. Your Impact.

You are invited to be part of our upcoming Community Dialogue event — engage in conversations that make a difference. 🌟

📅 Tuesday, Nov 4th at 6pm | 📍Souhegan High School | ➡️RSVP here

A group of student leaders from Souhegan High School, trained through an initiative called Getting to Y (GTY), is hosting a community dialogue regarding Youth Risk Behaviors. The GTY team worked with their high school peers to review and analyze the most recently available Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS - 2023) from our community. Together they identified areas of strength, as well as priority concerns. They have brainstormed root causes and possible solutions to improve outcomes for some of the health risk priorities that they identified in our community, and are now seeking to take action. In order to do so, the group needs input from the broader community (parents, community members, healthcare/mental health providers, first responders, local officials, etc) to identify actions & solutions.

Please RSVP or indicate interest through this form. We will share more information as we get closer to the event. Anyone with questions about the event are encouraged to reach out to SHS School Counseling Director Tim Cotreau (tcotreau@sau39.org) or SHS School Social Worker Sheelu Joshi Flegal (sjoshiflegal@sau39.org).

Senior Project News

Seniors have been paired with mentors; by this time they should have reached out to their mentor and had at least one meeting. Students should currently be working with their mentor to identify a topic, an essential question, and several sub-essential questions to focus their inquiry and work. Their preliminary EQ is due on Friday, November 7th. Each senior’s EQ will be reviewed by an EQ Committee to receive approval and/or feedback.
