A message from Mrs. Bardwell

It's Red Ribbon Week! Red Ribbon Week is a week where we focus on helping to remind our students to be drug-free. We use cute dress-up themes and a fun way to get the message across. Please remind your student of the daily dress-up days. When we dress up we also get to earn house points! It is the easiest way to drive up the points.

HCS Magnet Presentations - Representatives from all of HCS Magnet schools will be by on Tuesday to talk to our students. They will hear from the Lee Arts Magnet, New Century, and College Academy. Magnet applications are now open. Check out the HCS Progress Report linked below for more info.

Mad Scientist's Day is Friday. Mad Scientist's Day is an annual tradition for our science department. All students will take part is a trio of interactive activities during their science class to help spark their curiosity and interest in the world of science. Ask them about it on Friday!

Thank you to everyone for coming out to Math Night last week. Students and their families enjoyed a night of engaging math activities while enjoying a little dinner.

  • Thank you to Mathnaesium for bringing the activities!
  • Thank you to Alabama A&M for providing the volunteers
  • Thank you to Tiger Rock for sponsoring the food
This was our first ever math evening, but it will not be our last. Thank you all for making it a success!

Trunk-or-Treat was an absolute TREAT!

Thank you to all the students and parents that participated, volunteered, and or attended one of our events last week. Also, thank you to those who donated candy or made things for the bake sale. Everything came together to make Trunk-or-Treat AMAZING! It was awesome to see all the students and their families out together. All our houses showed up and showed OUT when decorating their trunks. The students who volunteered to work the trunks definitely brought the spirit of the house system to the event.

Green Grizzlies WIN BIG!

The MGMS GreenPower USA Team earns a 2nd place finish in Madison City at the MAD DASH this past Saturday. They competed against middle schools all over North Alabama. GreenPower competitions include the race portion, but also a presentation portion. GreenPower allows students to apply skills from all their classes. This is just the beginning for this team. We can't wait to see what is next.

Would you be interested?

We have lots of events through the year that would benefit from parent volunteers.

Mad Scientist Day - This is a fun filled day of hands-on science experiments and demonstrations for students. Parents could help set up experiments between classes and assist in facilitating when appropriate.

College & Career Day - This is a day where we help students get acquainted with a variety of college and career options. Parents could help contact businesses/colleges for the career fair and assist the day of with set-up.

STEAM Night - Thus far this has been our BIGGEST event. We would ask parents to help contact local companies asking for participation in our STEAM night. Parents could also help up organize and set up/break down after the event.

Color Run - This is a fundraising event for MGES and MGMS. Funds go directly to the schools, not through PTA. Prior to the event, we would ask parents to help with the organization of this event. We would need additional parents to help on the day of the event with the throwing of the color.

Check out the link below and complete the GoogleForm if you find one that interested you. We will contact you to discuss exactly how you can help.
