Akins AVID Monthly Newsletter

Last month, the focus was on Focused Note-taking. Our AVID teacher of the month is Jharon Stone. She used Focused notes in her class, created an AVID bulletin board and also had her students create One-Pagers. In September, our focus will be on One-Pagers. The AVID One Pager is a great way to get students to reflect on their learning in a creative way. It allows the student to use creativity to make connections between images and their learning. See our Blend page for some templates and more about One-Pagers. Students can create them on paper or also digitally using Canva, Adobe Spark, Google slides, Glogster, etc.

Students in our AVID classes had their first Fun Friday on August 30. We do team building and fun activities for the students such as Kahoot, game centers, kick ball, Philosophical Chairs and 4 Corners. The activity seen below was a STEM index card challenge.

We hold monthly Site Team meetings. If you are interested in helping us incorporate more AVID strategies throughout Akins and want to help support the AVID team, please join our Site Team. Our first meeting will be on September 11 at 7:45 am. We will also have another meeting on Wednesday, September 25 at 4:45.
