Dear NPS Community,

As we move further into May, there have been a variety of events and accomplishments taking place across the district. Below are just a few highlights from events I attended over the past few weeks.

7th Annual K-12 Performing Arts Waterfront Festival

Tomorrow is our 7th Annual K-12 Performing Arts Waterfront Festival! I want to thank the NEF for funding and putting on this event, our NPS music teachers for helping our students grow as performers and musicians, and our families for your continued support as your students develop their artistic abilities. If you want to see the arrival schedule for our participating students, or the performance schedule, click here. I'm looking forward to attending tomorrow, and seeing a variety of talented performances by our students, ages 5 to 18. I hope you will all join me there!

Newburyport High School Academic Awards

The High School held their 68th Academic Awards night on May 6th. The academic bronze key awards went to students that have made the honor roll three times, silver key awards went to students making the honor roll five times, and gold key awards were given to seniors that have been on the honor roll seven semesters. In addition to awards, several senior speakers reflected back on their hardships and successes throughout the last four years. All in all, it was a great community event.

Personalized Books From The Molin Family

Every year, our first grade students receive their very own book through the Molin Family Book Program. This past Tuesday, Bresnahan Principal Sokolowski and I visited each first grade classroom where Officer Michael Wilichoski, Newburyport police officer and grandson of Edward G. Molin, presented each student with their book. Every book is personalized to have the student as the main character, with other story characters named after family and friends. This is a beloved tradition that gets our first graders excited about reading!

As always, thank you to our staff, families, and community members for the support you provide to our students everyday. We are fortunate to have so many opportunities to celebrate student achievement and creativity together as a district.

Respectfully,

Sean Gallagher
