Celebrating Classified Staff Appreciation Week Celebrating Classified Staff Appreciation Week

National Classified Staff Appreciation Week has never been timely.

From our custodial staff and building engineers preparing schools for hybrid learning; to our facilities staff who heroically cleaned up debris and helped restore power to school buildings during recent power outages; to our nutrition services staff who have kept our students fed during the pandemic; and to our school office staff who have kept families connected to their schools, West Linn-Wilsonville is lucky to have such tremendous classified staff members.

Often working behind the scenes, classified staff such as our incredible IT Professionals, paraeducators, CREST staff, and so many others work together to create successful learning environments for our students. Thank you

Important Information For All Bus Riders Important Information For All Bus Riders

With the need for contact tracing being so high, we have to encourage a pretty rigid adherence to bus assignments and/or getting adjustments made.

To see what bus your child is assigned to, log into your ParentVue account. On the left hand side click on Bus Information. If your child is assigned to a bus, it will list your bus number, time of pick up and time of drop off. If you need to request a change, click the button and request that change. That will send your request to the bus company. Requests will be fulfilled based on available space on the bus.

If you need a 1 day change, you should fill out an "End of Day Bus Request Form". These are available in the school office. We ask that students avoid bus changes and instead ride the same bus as much as possible. This will maintain the integrity of student cohorts and lower any risk for the spread of COVID-19 to students and staff.

Bus routes are available for the middle schools and can be viewed at https://www.wlwv.k12.or.us/Page/11910.

Be watching for information about the FirstView system coming soon that will allow you to track your child's bus.

Can Staff and Families Travel During Spring Break? Read other Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Hybrid Learning

The West Linn-Wilsonville School District recommends that both staff and families follow current Oregon Health Authority travel recommendations. As of February 24, OHA recommends people stay home or in their region and avoid non-essential travel to other states or countries. People arriving in Oregon from other states or countries for non-essential travel, including returning Oregon residents, should (but are not required to) practice self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival and limit interactions to people in their household. These recommendations do not apply to individuals who cross state or country borders for essential travel. Current OHA Travel Guidance can be found on the Oregon Health Authority website.

Do you have other questions about our transition to hybrid learning? The Frequently Asked Questions section of the district website provides answers to common questions such as ventilation in classrooms, cleaning protocols in schools, and what students can expect when they come into school buildings. COVID-19 Testing in WLWV Schools

In the coming weeks, West Linn-Wilsonville schools will begin offering COVID-19 rapid testing in extra care rooms. Rapid Testing for COVID-19 will only take place if a student is exhibiting symptoms and only with parent-guardian permission. If it is recommended a student take a rapid COVID-19 test at school, a parent-guardian will be contacted to discuss important details and gain permission. A consent form will need to be signed when the parent-guardian comes to pick up the student. Testing will be conducted by trained district nurses or health assistants. Student/family privacy will be prioritized during the testing process.

Technology Reminders for Students Transitioning to Hybrid Learning

These are things that Families/Homes need to know:

  1. We will expect all students to bring their fully-charged Chromebook (or personal device) to school every day that they come. We will also expect them to be taken home each night. Charging/power cords should be kept at home.

  2. We suggest that students carry the device in their backpack. Please take extra precaution if sending any food/beverage to school to ensure that no leaks occur. If you are sending food/beverage to school in the backpack, consider enclosing the chromebook in a ziploc style bag inside the backpack.

  3. If your child has been using a personal computing device this school year, they can bring that to and from school. That is up to you as a family to decide.

  4. If you do not have a Chromebook or other device that you are comfortable transporting to and from school at this point, please submit a tekmee ticket to get directions for arranging for picking one up.

  5. Please make sure that your child can independently log into their device, including remembering their password as well as how to turn the device on. Please practice this with your child if they have generally relied on parental support to do this.

  6. We highly encourage you to keep the device plugged in while at home all the time. This will help ensure that it has adequate charge when brought to school.

  7. Before your child returns to school, it would be wise to "test" the battery capacity. To do so, fully charge it and then use it for a full-day of normal school activities while not plugged in. Watch the power as you do this and connect power when/if the battery gets below 10%. This will provide the best estimate of the device's current battery capacity. If you had to plug it into power before the normal end of the school day, contact the school to arrange for a device swap.
