Principal Corner Principal Corner

Good afternoon, Chapelfield families.

This week, we celebrated our PAWS sticker raffle winners, who each got to choose a book from our book vending machine—what a fun way to keep students showing PAWS everyday. A big thank-you goes out to all who ordered mums to support our PTO. Your support makes such a difference for our school community.

On Thursday, October 2, our staff engaged in professional development focused on strengthening writing through Wit & Wisdom and building fluency in Bridges. We are excited to bring these strategies into the classroom to continue supporting student learning.

Looking ahead, next week kicks off two exciting schoolwide events: our BIGGEST fundraiser of the year—Read-A-Thon—and One School, One Book. These initiatives not only support our school but also bring us together through the power of reading. We encourage you to set aside time each night to read with your child and help foster a love of books at home.

We hope you are enjoying the long weekend!

Sincerely,
Nikki Miller

School Counseling Connection with Mrs. Jasin School Counseling Connection with Mrs. Jasin

Dear Families,

This month in classroom guidance lessons, we focused on helping students build important social-emotional skills that support their success in school and beyond. Here’s a look at what each grade level has been learning:

  • Kindergarten–2nd Grade: We explored the Zones of Regulation, a tool that helps students recognize their feelings by using colors to represent emotions (blue, green, yellow, red). Students practiced identifying their zone and learning strategies to move back into the “green zone” where they are calm, focused, and ready to learn.

  • 3rd–4th Grade: We learned about different coping skills to manage stress, worries, or frustration. Students practiced healthy strategies like deep breathing, movement, positive self-talk, and taking breaks, so they have tools ready to use when big feelings arise.

  • 5th Grade: Students participated in a Managing Emotions Escape Room challenge. Through puzzles and teamwork, they identified healthy ways to manage emotions and worked together to “unlock” solutions, reinforcing both problem-solving and regulation skills.

Across all grade levels, we also discussed the idea of “Name it to Tame it”—when students put words to their feelings, it helps them feel more in control and calm.

Thank you for continuing to support these skills at home. A simple way to reinforce what we’re learning is by asking your child to “name” how they are feeling and talk about a strategy they can use to manage that feeling.

Warmly,

Mrs. Jasin

Physical Education with Mr. Scheibeck

Hello CES families,

In PE class, grades 2–5 have been playing Floor Square—a fun and fast-paced variation of the classic game Four Square. In this version, the ball stays on the ground and does not bounce, making it less difficult but just as exciting. It’s been a great opportunity for students to practice good sportsmanship, including playing fairly, taking turns, and showing respect—win or lose!

Kindergarten and 1st-grade students have been focusing on moving safely through open space. They’ve been learning how to navigate the gym without bumping into others or obstacles. This may sound simple, but it’s an important skill that builds body awareness and helps keep everyone safe—and they’ve been doing a fantastic job!

I also want to give a special shoutout to Mrs. Strous’ 1st-grade class. These students have been absolutely outstanding! They enter and exit the gym quietly, listen attentively during instruction, follow safety rules, and consistently show a positive attitude. I am incredibly proud of them!

Thank you and have a fantastic weekend!

Mr. Scheibeck

1.Log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account.

2. Select your child’s profile.

3. Navigate to the Absence Request section.

4. Fill in the required information, including the date and reason for the absence.

5. Submit your request.

You will be able to view the status of your request using the View Requests button.
