Executive Headteacher Message
It was fantastic to welcome all our children and families back to school this week after what we hope was a wonderful summer break filled with rest, adventure and precious memories. The school has once again been buzzing with excitement, laughter and smiling faces as children settled back into their routines, reconnected with friends and met their new teachers.
As we open our doors for another exciting school year, we are filled with enthusiasm for all the learning, growth and memorable experiences that lie ahead. A new academic year brings fresh opportunities, new challenges and the chance for every child to continue developing academically, socially and personally. We are committed to ensuring that every pupil feels happy, safe and inspired to achieve their very best, and we look forward to working closely with our families to make this another successful and rewarding year for all.
We are also delighted to introduce two fantastic new members of our teaching team. Miss White joins us in Year 4/5, and Miss Oliver joins our Year 2 team. Both have already made a wonderful start and are excited to become part of our school community. We know they will bring great energy, expertise and enthusiasm to their roles, and we are thrilled to have them on board.
The start of a new school year is always a special time, and it has been wonderful to see how quickly our children have returned ready to learn, demonstrate our school values and embrace the opportunities that await them. We have been particularly impressed by the confidence, positivity and excellent attitudes shown throughout the week.
Finally, I would like to extend a huge thank you to our incredible staff team for all their hard work in preparing the school for the new term. Throughout the summer and during the days leading up to the children's return, they have worked tirelessly to ensure that classrooms, shared spaces and outdoor areas are welcoming, engaging and ready for learning. Their dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment to our children shine through in every corner of our school, and we are incredibly grateful for all they do.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead and thank you, as always, for your continued support. Together, we will ensure that this year is filled with achievement, opportunity and many wonderful memories for our children.
Best wishes
Mr Lane
Start of Year Celebration Mass
We hope that as many parents, carers, and family members as possible will be able to join us for Mass at St Mellitus Church on Tuesday, 8 September, at 9:30am.
Mass at the start of the school year is a wonderful way to begin the new academic year and pray for our school community as we embark on another exciting year together.
Meet the Teacher Morning
We are delighted to invite parents and carers to our Meet the Teacher session on Thursday 17th September from 8:20am to 8:40am.
This is a wonderful opportunity to come into school with your child, have a look around their new classroom, and see some of the learning they have already been doing in the first few weeks of term.
You will also have the chance to meet your child's teacher, find out more about the year ahead, and ask any questions you may have. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing a glimpse of your child's new learning environment.
Event Information
Attendance- A Key Focus for This Year
At our school, we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to achieve their very best. This year, attendance and punctuality will continue to be a major focus as we work together with families to improve outcomes for all pupils.
Last year, our whole-school attendance was 92.3%, which is significantly below both the national average and the local authority target. We know that regular attendance has a direct impact on children's academic progress, wellbeing, confidence, and social development. Every day in school matters, and even small amounts of missed learning can quickly add up over time.
This year, we will continue with our robust approach to promoting excellent attendance and punctuality. Our expectation remains that all children attend school every day unless they are genuinely unwell, and that they arrive on time and ready to learn. Being punctual is just as important as attending regularly, as children who arrive late can miss important learning opportunities, daily routines, and key information that helps them start the day successfully.
We recognise that parents and carers play a vital role in supporting good attendance habits. By working together, we can ensure that children establish routines that help them feel settled, confident, and prepared for learning. We encourage families to prioritise school attendance, make medical appointments outside of school hours where possible, and contact the school promptly if there are circumstances affecting their child's attendance.
Our goal is simple: to improve attendance and punctuality across the school so that every child benefits from the rich learning experiences, friendships, and opportunities that school provides. We will continue to monitor attendance closely, celebrate improvements and excellent attendance, and provide support to families where needed.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we can ensure that every child is in school, on time, every day, and able to make the most of every opportunity for success.
Attendance Champions 2025-26
Congratulations to the current St Maximilian class (formerly St Bernadette) for achieving the highest class attendance last year. Their excellent attendance, punctuality, and teamwork have earned them a fantastic £200 class reward.
This success reflects the efforts of every child. By being in school, arriving on time, and contributing to their class community, they worked together to achieve an outstanding result.
Now it's time to decide how to spend the £200! What will they choose?
With the attendance competition running again this year, which class will rise to the challenge and claim the prize next year? Every child counts, every day counts, and together we can achieve success.

Wednesday Word
Each week, we share the Wednesday Word with parents. The aim of the Wednesday Word to help children grow their vocabulary and spark meaningful conversations at home about the weekly Gospel. It’s a simple but powerful way to make talking about the Gospel and the things Jesus said and did and how we can relate this to our own lives in a fun and interactive way.
How can parents use the Wednesday Word?
- Talk about the meaning: Ask your child what they think the word means, then explore it together.
- Use it in conversation: Challenge each other to use the word naturally during the day.
- Create together: Draw a picture, write a sentence, or make up a short story using the word.
- Connect to experiences: Ask questions like, “When have you felt this word?” or “Where might you see this word in action?”
