Hello Caregivers!

It’s hard to believe that we are in the final countdown before winter break. As I settle into my leather chair, reflecting on the moments we’ve shared, I’m reminded of the many blessings we have as members of this wonderful school community—Nichols Middle School.

What makes our community so special is the immense diversity of thought, experiences, wonders, dreams, and desires that our scholars bring. They teach us every day to see the humanity in one another. While we may have different ways of doing things or differing opinions, one truth remains: each and every one of us is striving to grow, reaching higher and higher toward who we can become—adults, caregivers, and scholars alike.

This week, we may take a step back to have a little more fun during Student Spirit Week: The Winter Edition. Perhaps we’ll learn a new skill, gain a fresh perspective, or even feel a little anxious about being away from our Nichols family for two weeks. But let’s approach this week as a slingshot into new beginnings. When we return, it will be a whole new year—2025!

What dreams and aspirations might you have for the year ahead? Your scholar is watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity to show them that new beginnings always greet us. It’s what we do with those beginnings that sets the stage for what’s to come.

I am so very excited for 2025 and for Nichols Middle School. We are soaring to new heights—each and every one of us!

What's in Your Locker? What's in the Lost and Found?

This week, we will be conducting locker clean-out to ensure everything is in order before we head into winter break. Please remind your scholar to bring home all of the items they’ve collected over the past couple of months.

In addition to locker clean-out, we will also be clearing out the Lost & Found. Items will be displayed in the cafeteria, and we encourage scholars to check for any missing belongings. We have a wide variety of unclaimed items, including clothing, winter gear, books, tumblers, and more.

Any items not claimed by the end of the week will be donated.

Thank you for your support in helping us start the new year fresh and organized!

Superman Challenge Concern

We have recently observed a number of boys attempting to participate in the "Superman Challenge"—a dangerous activity where one student is hoisted into the air and “launched” by others. This behavior is extremely unsafe and unacceptable.

Please take a moment to talk with your scholar about the importance of safe and positive play at school. Students are expected to keep their hands to themselves at all times, except during sanctioned intramural activities where physical interaction may occur in a controlled environment.

While we do our best to monitor students, we also expect our scholars to exercise good judgment during recess, in the halls, and in class.

We greatly appreciate your support and attention to this matter as we work together to maintain a safe and respectful school environment.

Town Hall Meetings 12/19

On December 19th, we will hold grade-level Town Hall Meetings to celebrate our Students of the Month and their achievements.

In addition to celebrating our scholars, we will also discuss new expectations focused on using appropriate community language when speaking to and about one another.

We look forward to closing out the year on a positive and respectful note as we prepare for a fresh start in 2025!

The holidays can be stressful, and putting extra pressure on yourself to create the “perfect” holiday only adds to the strain. Instead of focusing on what you think the holidays should look like, take a step back, honor how you’re feeling, and prioritize your own needs.

Here are three gentle reminders to keep in mind:

💙 Your mental health is more important than creating the perfect holiday.
💙 The best gift you can give others is to prioritize self-care.
💙 Aim for “good enough” instead of perfect—it’s more than enough.

Take care of yourself this season. You deserve it.
