Principal's Message
Dear HOD Families,
Happy November! As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, it’s the perfect time to reflect on gratitude and community. This month, we will be celebrating all the reasons we have to be thankful, especially for our incredible HOD family of students, staff, and families who make our hive such a caring and connected place to learn and grow.
We are excited to continue one of our favorite HOD traditions, our Annual Thankful Season Food Drive. From November 7th through November 21st, we will be collecting donations to help local families in need. Each year, our students BEE-lieve in making a difference, and their generosity reminds us that small acts of kindness can create a big buzz in our community.
Later this month, we will gather for our first in-school assembly of the year, a time to come together as one school family to reflect on gratitude, celebrate our community, and highlight all the things, big and small, that make HOD such a wonderful place. We will share what we are thankful for and recognize how we all contribute in making our school a warm, welcoming place to grow.
As we move into this season of thankfulness, I am reminded every day of how lucky I am to BEE part of such a kind, joyful, and supportive community. Thank you for filling our hive with heart, hope, and happiness.
With appreciation,
Kristen Giffune

Season of Giving
November 5, 2025
Dear Norfolk Families,
This year the Norfolk Public School District will help support families in need of gift giving assistance within our school community.
The programs at both schools embody the caring community spirit of Norfolk as families come together to help others have a memorable winter season.
We encourage families in need of gift giving assistance to please complete this form for each child you are requesting assistance, by Friday, November 14th. All requests will be kept confidential.
Please think of the things your child/guardian might need but be sure to write down those gifts that are wished for or wanted (if you are able to hyperlink that is helpful). While we are not able to provide iPads, gaming systems or “big ticket", “name brand” items, we would like to give something that is truly wanted to add to the joy of the season.
Additionally, please let us know if your child needs a winter coat, hat/gloves, boots and/or snow pants ranked in order of necessity.
Once the shopping is done and everything is ready, we will reach out to set up a pick-up time.
Kind wishes,
Your Norfolk School Family

🎵 Notes from Mr. Eskeli 🎵
Thank you families of HOD for filling out our music in the home survey! These answers will help determine what kind of music and what artists are used for warmups and movement activities. Second graders will benefit greatly, as they prepare to discuss genres, and what makes music sound different.

Our Lost and Found is already beginning to pile up!
To help us return items quickly, please label sweatshirts, jackets, lunchboxes, and other belongings with your child’s name. This is also a great opportunity to remind students about BEE-ing responsible by keeping track of their things.
Notes from our School Nurses
When to Keep your Child Home Sick from School
If your child is not feeling well, your pediatrician is the best person to consult about whether they can go to school. Common sense, concern for your child's well-being, and the possibility of infecting classmates should all contribute to the decision about whether your child should stay home. As a general guideline, keep your child home if:
- They have a fever of 100 degrees F or higher. They should remain at home until fever-free for 24 hours without using fever reducing medications such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
- They have had episodes of vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours.
- They have been diagnosed with conjunctivitis(Pink Eye). They may return 24 hours after the first dose of prescribed medication.
Below is a list of common health issues for your reference
Fever
A temperature of 100 degrees or higher is a fever. Children should remain at home fever-free for 24 ours without takeng Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
Vomiting/Diarrhea
Children should remain at home symptom free for 24 hours and are able to ingest fluids and food comfortably.
Coughs/Cold
If your child has discomfort from their cold symptoms, consider keeping them home. A continuous cough and/or continuous or green nasal drainage may need to be evaluated by your child's physician.
Conjunctivitis
Your child may need to be on an antibiotic for 24 hours after the first dose before returning to school or a note from your student's physician with other guidance.
Strep Throat
Children cannot return to school until 24 hours after the first dose of antibiotic is taken. They should feel well enough to return to school.
Suspicious Rash
Children with rashes that are suspicious should have them evaluated by a physician and be cleared to return to school.
