PreK-2: Tiahna Marroquin

"The reason why we chose Tiahna Marroquin for the month of December, is because she displayed a PAWsitive attitude in the classroom. Whether Tiahna is working hard, maintaining her space or helping her friends out in any way. She does the best that she can and with a smile. Keep being the star you are, Tiahna!" - Ms. Ratliff

3-5: Elijah Tolliver

"Elijah is doing so well in Spanish class. He's participating even when it's difficult for him. He logs on without being prompted and is respectful when answering the teachers. Learning Spanish can be frustrating for Elijah at times, but he doesn't give up or get upset; for that I am extremely proud of him." - Ms. Ware

Message From The Superintendent Message From The Superintendent

Welcome back from winter break! As we begin 2025, we're excited to continue building on our students' achievements and fostering their growth. This month brings new opportunities for learning and community engagement. We would like to thank all of our community partners that provided various donations for our children and families during the holiday season.

Historical Fact

Every year during the month of January, we take an opportunity to reflect on one of Lawnside's notable historical moments. On April 9, 1968, the day of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s funeral, the Lawnside School Board President, Mr. Morris L. Smith called a special board meeting and along with other board members passed a resolution declaring Dr. King’s birthday as a school holiday. That act distinguished Lawnside’s School Board as the first governmental entity in the United States to acknowledge Dr. King’s birthday as a holiday prior to its federal passage in 1983.
