Message from Ms. Lahey Message from Ms. Lahey

Greetings, Hembree Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful week! It’s hard to believe how quickly this semester is flying by—and after the break, it’ll go even faster. I continue to be so proud of the incredible progress we’re making as a school. Each week, our admin team reviews student data, and it’s clear that your children’s hard work is paying off!

Did you know your child can access iReady from home?
iReady is a powerful tool we use to measure academic growth in both Math and ELA. To support your child’s learning, we ask that students complete at least two lessons in Math and two in ELA each week. Extra practice at home can make a big difference!

Here’s how to log in from a laptop:

  1. Visit www.fultonschools.org
  2. Scroll down and click on Classlink
  3. Log in using your child’s student ID and password (their birthdate in MMDDYYYY format)
  4. Click on the iReady icon to begin lessons

Trunk or Treat is almost here!
We’re so excited for our upcoming Trunk or Treat event on Friday, October 24th! It’s going to be a fun-filled evening for our students and families. We’re still in need of candy donations—if you’re able to help, please send a bag with your child after the break. Your support helps make this event a sweet success!

On a personal note…
The Bulldogs bounced back with a great win against Kentucky last weekend—what a game! The next two Saturdays will be tough, and I’ll be on vacation with limited access to TV (wish me luck!). I’m hoping for some good news when I return!

Wishing you all a restful and relaxing fall break. The weather has been absolutely beautiful—perfect for spending quality time outdoors with your loved ones. Enjoy every moment!

Warm Regards,
Nancy Lahey

Book Character Day October 31 Book Character Day October 31

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

Dear Families,

Hembree Springs Elementary is very excited to announce that on Friday, October 31, 2025, we will be hosting a Story Book Character Day! On this day the staff and students may dress up as their favorite storybook character. We are asking that the character comes from a book that your child reads and loves (not just from a movie or cartoon.)

Please work with your child to plan a fun and simple homemade costume. We are asking that you work together to be creative with items around the house versus spending money on a store-bought costume. Your child may bring a copy of the book to class that day so that we can take part in several character study activities!

To help ensure students’ feelings of safety and security, violent or frightening costumes are not acceptable. No props, dangerous-looking items, or costume masks covering the face. See below for examples of acceptable costume choices.

Thank you for helping to make this day possible for your student(s).

Acceptable Examples:

  • Fancy Nancy Characters
  • Cinderella, Snow White, etc.
  • The Wimpy Kid Series
  • Ramona the Brave
  • Nate the Great
  • Harry Potter and crew

Unacceptable Examples:

  • Characters from Goosebumps
  • Vampires
  • Ghosts
  • Horror Movie Characters
  • Clowns
  • Characters with guns or weapons

Home Refresh for One of Hembree Springs' Own Home Refresh for One of Hembree Springs' Own

Curtin Team Cares is a non-profit founded in 2018 by Tom and Joanne Curtin. The Home Refresh Project recognizes a Roswell School District teacher or staff member who has faced change or hardship over the past year by giving their home a makeover. Our dedicated team and volunteers provide a wide range of services—including painting, landscaping, handyman repairs, cleaning, window washing, organizing, and staging—tailored to the specific needs of the recipient. We do our best to provide as much support as possible to make their home feel refreshed and renewed! This initiative is our way of showing gratitude for the dedication and resilience of educators like Toni, who give so much to our children, schools, and community.

Toni Reeves is the winner of the 2nd Annual Curtin Team Home Refresh! She was chosen from a group of community-nominated Roswell School District staff members. She will be receiving this special home makeover, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate her! You can also view more details on our recent Instagram post/video here.

We’ll be sharing updates on Toni’s home refresh journey along the way.

Feed Fillmore Some Candy for Trunk or Treat! Feed Fillmore Some Candy for Trunk or Treat!

Don’t forget to have your donated candy ready to bring to FillMore after the break – he will be hungry!!!

Our favorite sugar-loving monster is on the loose again, and if we don’t keep him fed, he might start causing trouble around the school So help us out—bring in those bags of candy to satisfy Fillmore’s sweet tooth! All candy donations go toward helping our PTA cover the cost for teachers hosting trunks at our Trunk or Treat on Oct. 24 Your donations keep the event fun (and affordable!) for everyone. Drop your candy off in the furry green monster bin across from the front desk and help us keep Fillmore happy (and out of mischief). New, non-candy treasure box type items are also accepted.

And while you’re at it, help us spread some warm fuzzies and check those closets! We’re also collecting winter coat donations for our Coat Drive at Trunk or Treat. Students can bring coats on the day of the event that they’ve outgrown. They can also pick one that fits to take home if they want.

Student Success Skills for October Student Success Skills for October

Each month, we highlight one of the Student Success Skills that teachers help students develop throughout the year. One of the Student Success Skills students will be developing this year is Self-Awareness - helping students recognize their emotions, strengths, and how their thoughts and feelings influence their actions.

Example 1: Your child realizes that math is super easy for them, but remembering science facts is really hard. They know that they have to put in twice the effort in science. This is being aware of a strength and also being aware of where they may need to work harder.

Example 2: Maybe your child has a fight with their sibling on the way to school. They arrive to school feeling angry and then are grumpy to a friend. Now their friend feels bad. Your child realizes that they weren’t nice to their friend because they were angry at their sibling, so they apologize to their friend and explain themselves. This is one example of being self-aware – knowing what makes you tick and understanding where your emotions are coming from.

Here are a few ways to support self-awareness at home:

· Talk about emotions. Encourage your child to name what they're feeling and why.

· Celebrate strengths. Point out times your child shows effort, kindness, or perseverance.

· Model reflection. Share times when you noticed your own emotions and how you responded.

· Encourage goal-setting. Help your child choose a small goal for the week and reflect on their progress.

Building self-awareness helps students make thoughtful choices, strengthen relationships, and grow in confidence, both in and out of the classroom!

Want to learn more about Self-Awareness and how your own self-awareness is the key to your child's success? Check out the parent support forum coming on Friday, October 17th hosted by Chris 180, who provides mental health and family services. Details in the flyer.

Beanstack Reading App Beanstack Reading App

Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. You can always find your child's lunch number/student number in infinite campus or email Mrs. Soberanis: soberanis@fultonschools.org. Happy Reading!
