Message from Ms. Lahey
Greetings Hembree Families,
What an exciting week we've had! Our fourth and fifth-grade chorus concert took place on Thursday night with the theme "Go West." The students did a fantastic job, and I know our fifth graders will cherish the memories of their Hembree Chorus days. A special thanks to Ms. Slay for her hard work and dedication to our students.
Today, we celebrated our April Best of the Nest students. It's always a joy to see their smiles and hear the wonderful things our teachers have to say about our Hawks.
Next week, our Georgia Milestones tests begin. Our teachers and students have worked diligently all year to prepare, and I know they are ready to shine. To help make the testing days successful, we ask parents to:
- Ensure your child gets a good night's sleep.
- Make sure your child arrives at school early enough to avoid feeling rushed.
- Provide a healthy breakfast or ensure they have enough time to eat at school.
- Encourage your child to do their best.
Thank you for partnering with us to make the testing successful.
Testing Schedule for Grades 3-5:
- Wednesday, April 30th: ELA Section 1
- Thursday, May 1st: ELA Section 2
- Friday, May 2nd: ELA Section 3
- Tuesday, May 6th: Math Part 1
- Wednesday, May 7th: Math Part 2
- Thursday, May 8th: Science Parts 1 and 2 (5th Grade Only)
The PTA is still looking to fill two positions on the board. We are in need of a communications chair and a business partners liaison. If you have been looking to get involved, this is a wonderful opportunity.
I hope you all have a great weekend!
Best Regards,
Nancy Lahey
Principal

End of the year picnic at Hembree Park
It's almost the end of the school year, and what better way to celebrate these students' accomplishments than to let them run around the playground with friends at Hembree Park?!
The PTA will host this awesome playdate and picnic Friday, May 9 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the park, which is right across the street from the school. The playground is located past the tennis courts and next to the baseball fields in the back of the park. Pack a picnic if you'd like. Psychedelic Snow will be offering FREE sno cones! Bring the whole family. (This is not a drop-off event). We hope to see you there!

Beanstack Reading App
Have you heard your child mention anything about an app called Beanstack? It was introduced in the Media Center. Beanstack is a digital reading log that students can use to log the number of minutes they are reading. They can earn badges and rewards along the way. If your child is reading at school, home, daycare, etc. they can log their minutes and help us get closer to our goal. The following is a video explaining how to use Beanstack from home. You can always find your child's lunch number/student number in infinite campus or email Mrs. Soberanis: soberanis@fultonschools.org. Happy Reading!

Family Engagement Thursdays
Families! YOU are your child’s first and most influential teacher. As such you have so much to offer your student! To encourage family engagement at home, we are offering family engagement Thursdays. Each week there will be (1) activity to do at home to be completed prior to Friday. We’ll list the activities for the month in Hembree Highlights and offer reminders via social media. Your student will have the opportunity to receive a *bonus* Hawk’s ticket for participating (look out for more details from your teacher) We’ll include tips and tricks to get the conversation started and reinforce learning from the school day. Please spend anywhere from 10-20 minutes with your child engaging with them around their day at school and encouraging their social and emotional skills. We’ll also encourage you to practice other skills inclusive of Math and ELA. Please feel free to reach out to me Lucy Gilbert, Title I Parent Liaison (gilbertl2@fultonschools.org) with any questions.

Jueves de Participación Familiar
¡Familias!
