Briana Mercer Briana Mercer

Brianna Mercer is a senior attending Meridian High School. Her hobbies are writing, cooking, and anything involving the arts. Her parents are Gary Mercer and Kantuna Woods as well as her bonus mom Annie Hurlbert. Her siblings are Demarcus White, Irene Peirce, Paige Wilson, Candra Williams and Samual Williams. Her favorite high school memory has to be the summer of 24. If you know you know. She is a part of Meridian High School’s One Act Play.

Her plans for after high school are to attend MCC to get her degree in teaching and become an elementary school teacher. She would like to thank the Baker sisters Ellie, Sophia, and Millie for being her longest and best friends from Meridian. She has absolutely adored all teachers and staff here at Meridian for all they have done for me but there is one teacher in particular that she has the honor of calling not just my favorite teacher but my inspiration.

Since day one Mrs.Carpenter has never once made her feel insignificant, lesser than, or dumb. She has given her never ending support and has never shown her anything less than the utmost kindness and generosity. Te amo y gracias Sra. Carpenter.

As a farewell to all of her friends and underclassmen her message is, "We push on not because we want to but because we must, for knowledge is freedom and freedom leads to all we may hope for in this life. In other words, you're almost there, I believe in you. To any incoming freshmen, there's a saying that I heard once “enjoy it while it lasts or you'll lose it in a flash.” This is where your best years and best memories will begin and will most likely end. Don't be annoying, do your work, but more importantly have fun while you can. "

Ian Gomez Ian Gomez

Ian Gomez, son of Ninfa and Geronimo Gomez, is a dedicated athlete and student at Meridian High School. He has two older brothers, Jonathan and Chantz. Throughout his four years of high school, Ian has been actively involved in football, baseball, and track.

Reflecting on his journey, Ian offers advice to underclassmen: “Freshmen, you might not believe it now, but high school truly flies by. One day, you're a freshman without a care in the world, and before you know it, you're a senior, navigating the stress of adulthood. My advice—enjoy it while it lasts.”

He also acknowledges the importance of friendship, stating that without his friends, he wouldn’t have made it through the challenges of high school.

Glory Gilbert Glory Gilbert

Glory Gilbert, daughter of James and Leigh Gilbert, is a dedicated student, leader, and mentor. As the oldest of four siblings, she embraces her role with enthusiasm, spending much of her time with her younger brothers and sisters, who are 15, 13, and 9 years old. Her passion for helping others extends beyond her family, as she is an active member of the National Honor Society, One Act Play, and her church youth group.

At school, Glory devotes much of her free time to working with the Pre-K 3 and Kindergarten classes, fostering a love for learning in the youngest students. Her deep appreciation for music shines through in her leadership as the lead vocalist for The Peaches, a worship band that performs on Wednesday nights. Additionally, she plays a key role in her church’s worship rotation on Sunday mornings alongside her family and serves in the nursery, demonstrating her heart for service.

Glory’s passion for education stems from the lasting impact her own kindergarten teacher had on her. After high school, she plans to attend Tarleton State University to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. Her ultimate goal is to become a kindergarten teacher, inspiring and shaping young minds just as she was once inspired.

Special Education Grant Info Special Education Grant Info

The Parent-Directed Special Education Services (PDSES) grant is an incredible opportunity for families of eligible students with disabilities to receive financial assistance for supplemental special education services. Offered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), this program helps parents take an active role in their child’s education by providing funds to access additional resources tailored to their child’s unique learning needs.

Through the PDSES grant, families can receive up to $1,500 per eligible student to use toward a variety of educational supports, including tutoring, therapy, instructional materials, and other specialized services. These funds are designed to enhance learning opportunities outside the traditional classroom, helping students with disabilities thrive.

To qualify, students must be enrolled in a Texas public school and have a current individualized education program (IEP). The application process is straightforward, and families can find more details, including eligibility requirements and how to apply, on the TEA website.

This grant is a valuable resource for families looking to provide additional support for their children. If you or someone you know could benefit from the PDSES grant, we encourage you to explore this opportunity and take advantage of the funding available.

For more information, visit TEA's official website or contact your school’s special education department.
